mitsu heavy industries is a different story it is tied up with the us based CAT heavy equipments

Mitsubishi still has a total vehicle sales bigger than honda and nissan here in the philippines. its commercial vehicles and trucks segments seem to be pushing its sales. So its really doubtful if they will close shop here. They are consistently in the top 3 in total vehicle sales.

They should just cut down their model lineup, continuing to build only the cars that sell well. That way, they can make them better, winning over more buyers in the future.

hmmm. mitsubishi motors is not yet dead. but neither is mitsubishi making any money yet. they are just projected to lose less for this fiscal year compared to last year's mind boggling $4.7 billion loss.

Ford is losing money, but it's big, it'll survive. Ford's subsidiaries, Volvo, Mazda and Aston, are doing relatively well.

Mitsubishi is still losing money, and it's not going to be a big player internationally in the future, but its sales in the Asian market are still good. Look at Isuzu... it's all but dead in the private automotive market (no new models for how long... Alterra/D-Max doesn't count, that's a shared platform) but it's still going strong in sales in the ASEAN.

If you're buying a new Mitsu, I wouldn't worry at all.

AFAIK, Daimler Chrysler has written off its equity investment (in Mitsubishi Motors) as a loss for their financial results for the fiscal period of 2005.

I really liked the Grandis but after hearing alot of this Mitsubishi Motors Close-down tales with greater frequency in the past months and as well as Mitsubishi's poor resale value in the Philippines, I decided to look elsewhere.

Btw, Mitsubishi Grandis is a big seller in Singapore. Almost every street has one! Turn right, left, etc there's bound to be a Grandis there!

Ps: I know of someone who has reacted too rashly and irrationally to these (un)confirmed Mitsubishi Motors close-down hearsay/tales, by having their fleet of mitsubishi vehicles replaced immediately the very minute they heard this "news". What a waste, some of the vehicles are still new.
