September 13th, 2005 10:35 AM #11acenie,
think of it like a tire, both of them operate at certain pressures to have the best operating condition....putting in air pressure for a new tire is the same like calibrating the correct pressures for a new nozzle tip.
re-checking pressures for both every now and then is recommended....

what this machine does is you attach your injector with the new nozzle tip inside and it pounds calibrated pressure unto the injector where you can actually see the spray pattern, atomization and if all the holes work of the new nozzle tip. depending on the part number, it will tell us what pressure, spray pattern, angle etc. we should achieve.
it's almost like simulating its operation on your vehicle's engine..

September 13th, 2005 09:49 PM #17let me add something more....
a chief engineer of a popular bus line went to our shop before and he observed the installation of a new set of nozzle tips on their buses's injectors....when calibration time came, he insisted on using his own style of setting it but of course we warned him that this would void the warranty since its not within the specificied procedure and there was no record of pressure calibration.
you know what he did? he asked us to mount the injection pump on the test bench and attach the injectors onto the fuel lines, he then asked us to rev it which by now the injectors where spewing diesel fuel, he then got a piece of paper and placed it underneath the tip on the nozzle tip, when it splattered fuel forming like a spray pattern, he said Ok na yan!
they went back with the new tips and after a day or two, he was now asking for warranty. we just told him bluntly, we can't give you that since you would not let us calibrate the injectors with new tips using the proper procedure and calibration specifications...
a lot of backyard mechanics tend to be a know it all because they think they have enough experience of doing something...

Doc Diesel;
Would you advise using cheaper nozzle tip brands? Kasi Im thinking of selling my L200 in 1 or 2 years time naman din eh. Would you think it would last that long?
