    Not to mention. GTO ang nakikipag sabayan sa technology sa GTR. I remember during the 90s, It has 4WD, 4WS, active aero system (spoiler and front splitter that goes up and down at certain speed to decrease drag, etc.) not to mention the high tech turbocharged engine.

    I think the problem with the EVO was much deeper than that. Before the Evo X, there was a real disconnect between the Evo and the rest of the model range. In most markets, there were no mid-range "WRX" style models to bridge the gap between the hardcore Evolution models and the simple front-wheel drive everyday Lancers. (the Cedia 2.0 GT with the INVECS? It stunk to high heavens.), and Mitsubishi lacked that WRX-style gateway drug to introduce new people into the Evo-fold. It's only with the current generation that the Ralliart actually has the balls to be considered "Ralliart", but it's still too "safe" and refined to provide much in terms of raw thrills.

    If Mitsubishi had figured out a way to capitalize on its unique selling propositions to capture the public's imagination... their expertise in turbocharging... being one of the first to use gasoline direct injection... the way Subaru used AWD to set itself apart... they might not be in the pickle they're in now. Then again... Mitsu's problems are mostly due to boneheaded business decisions rather than the cars themselves.

    i don't think the ralliart has anything to do with the EVO's sales. people who wants performance and can't afford the EVO went with the wrx instead of the ralliart. no offense to anyone but the ralliart is an embarrassment to the lancers line up. it was too expensive for the a regular lancer and too slow to be pitted against the wrx and other real sports cars in the same price range not just that you'll also spend a lot of money just to keep up with the wrx. that's why people would rather buy something else.

    also if you talk to evo enthusiast(no not those teenagers wanna be paul walkers who just got their evo x's), i'm talking about mature guys who's had a bunch of evo's already and actually know what they're talking about, to them they don't deny that the X is the fastest EVO but it wasn't the same EVO they fell in love with. they'd still prefer the older EVO's because it was more driver oriented and more simple. heck if you watch rally events you'll barely see the X being used as a rally car, i don't even remember seeing one actually, but there's still a lot of older evo's being used in rally. that says a lot about a sports car that was based on a rally car.

    the people who originally bought these cars, like the impreza, Lancer Evolution, GT-FOUR Celica, Delta Integrale, Escort Cosworth, and many others were world rally championship fans that wanted these monster cars. that's why mitsu/subaru/ford/toyota created a street version of them and now only the evo and sti remains. if you talk to those guys that are real enthusiast of these cars they actually prefer mitsu kill the car than be made into something else, because to them atleast the name and the history of the evo won't be destroyed by going into another direction which is the total opposite of the original reason why they even made the car in the first place.

    i guarantee you, if they actually do what they plan to do then they'll lose a lot of their enthusiast and the car won't even sell as well as they hoped it would.

    It's only here that the price disparity is so high... because Subaru gains AFTA benefits via Motor Image being a "Singaporean" company rather than a "Japanese" company.

    Elsewhere, the price is similar.

    The Ralliart, despite only coming in automatic, is much faster than the horsepower numbers suggest. We've timed it to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, about the same as a manual STI, unless you absolutely butcher the clutch with a 5,000 rpm, clutch-slipping, drivetrain wrecking launch, and faster than the STI A-Line. At speed, you do notice the lack of power compared to the STI or even the Impreza, but the real problem with the Ralliart (if you ignore the price distorting tax issue) is that the suspension tuning and tires feel like they come straight off the Lancer EX GTA. Which they do.

    Mitsubishi, with the X, was banking on those "mature" buyers to want something bigger and more refined than the old Evo. Unfortunately, refinement and hardcore performance don't go hand in hand. And Mitsubishi can't do interior quality or refinement as well as some others... which defeats the purpose.

    in most countries the ralliart is in the same price range of the wrx and genesis coupe, it's only in the philippines that it's almost on par with the STi. in the states if i remember correctly the wrx is around $26-27k while the ralliart is i think $28k. while the brz/frs base model is around $25k and the genesis coupe is in the same price range as the wrx. ever since the ralliart was released in the states, china and new zealand i've never seen one on the road. i see a lot of regular lancers though. even there in the philippines i've only seen it on the road twice i think.

    regarding the 0-100kph, everyone i know who owns an STi launch their cars at 4-5k rpm i don't even know anyone who hasn't launched their sports cars violently atleast once or twice. so saying that their 0-100kph time is about the same when you don't launch your STi is irrelevant. the a-line is an embarrassment to be called an STi, the LGT is almost as fast as the a-line on the track. plus it's not all about 0-100kph anyway there's a lot of other things to consider. only those wanna be street racers look at 0-100kph time, 1/4mile and top speed. like i said the ralliart shouldn't be pitted against real sports cars. reminds me of the guys saying the wrx is a better buy compared to the sti since the price difference is huge but the power difference is small, yeah if you look at it in paper, the 0-100kph and 1/4mile times are very very close but once you bring it to the track you'll know that the difference was truly huge and understand why the STi was more expensive than the wrx.

    while i agree that the evo x was for a more mature market because of it's refinement, it didn't sell well on evo enthusiast young or mature.

    What I mean on the launch is that if you do a simple 4k clutch drop, the Ralliart is actually quicker.

    If you do a simple 5k clutch drop, which hurts the engine and drivetrain mounts but at least allows you to drive home, they're even.

    If you do a 5k slipping clutch launch, which will fry the clutch and eventually wreck the drivetrain, the STI is faster.

    Of course, after third gear, it's no contest. The STI will walk the Ralliart in the quarter mile no sweat. But we were still pretty impressed by the Ralliart DCT system when we tested it. Too bad the engine doesn't have too much "oomph" and the chassis feels so limp compared to an EVO or an STI.

    There are a few Ralliarts around, though whenever I see them, I end up looking underneath the rear to make sure they're not dessed up GTAs. Casual drivers won't mind that they're not as hardcore as an EVO or STI... that's not their market, anyway. But they really could do with a lower price tag. Perhaps if Mitsubishi starts making them in Thailand...

    i agree if they lower their price tag then it would sell like hotcakes. maybe around 1.4-1.7M would be an ideal price not 2.1M!!! don't get me wrong the ralliart is a great car but not so great for the price tag it was put in and the competitors it's trying to compete with.

    honestly a lot of people are launching their sports cars violently. i have a friend with an STi and almost every week he'd launch his STi as fast as possible and he even flat foot shifts it. i weep for his car, launching is one thing but flat foot shifting especially on an AWD car is asking for it. to my surprise his car is already 3 years old and still have no problems.

    You may beg to disagree. But I think cars with speed on purpose are more tolerant with that kind of use.

    Flat shifting will strip the transmission someday. STIs are very, very tough, but they will break.

    Of course, being made tough means that they're a bit unrefined... stiff... loud... clunky. But definitely more abuse-friendly than the DCT-only Ralliart... whose transmission cooler isn't sized for trackwork. The tranny goes into limp mode after you've been driving hard for a while.
