The lower hatch is durable enough to be stepped upon. Same lang sa mga pickup.

being a CUV/SUV user for so many years now, tingin ko dagdag lang sa trabaho yan extra door sa ilalim.
But as I pointed out, you do not need to open the lower hatch to load or unload cargo. Without opening it, liftover is comparable to a typical cute ute. The lower tailgate, however, is a thoughtful feature you will appreciate when you know how to maximize its usefulness.

And yes, just like on Range Rover's and Land Cruisers (the ones with tailgates, not ambulance doors), you can stand up on the lowered tailgate of the Outlander.

If you do not wish to utilize the lower tailgate, the opening is just like that of your typical Mazda Tribute, CR-V, etc.

The liftover height of my former Pajero was up to my beltline (since the vehicle wore a suspension lift). It was like unloading off the back of a 4x4 pick up truck minus the tailgate part (my white pants still got pretty dirty from contacting the rear bumper, though). The Outie's innovative tailgate design is something I will appreciate.
