    when an owner says the car is ok, it simply affirms one's choice.
    but would you still avidly buy a car that an owner says is lousy? or should one slow down and investigate first, why owner said so?

    word of mouth affects purchasing, probably more often than we think.

    Thats sad if thats the case. Word of mouth should be just a reference. At the end of the day it will be your own judgement of the car specially they are products that cost 6 digits at least. Its not trial and error but unless we have too much money
