    But its still serviceable, its just not safe for prolonged use, so why not keep it as spare?

    only if it can be guaranteed that the repaired tire won't blow, during the short time that it will be used.

    who wants to gamble, say, 4000 bucks, against one's and one's family's safety?

    So I Googled what an m6 m8 bolt is. Honestly, I don't think it is big enough to significantly affect a tire's integrity. I watched how recapped tires are made and some damage to those old tires are probably worse than what happened to your tire.
