Para sa akin, the best ang Cathay Pacific together with Sinapore Airlines. Worst airline for me is Cebu Pacific, grabe ma-delay.

Best and Worst Airlines in the World

By Russell Eaton | August 17, 2008

The levels of service and airline safety ratings vary tremendously according to Skytrax. The top six airlines in the world in 2008 (with 5 star ratings) are as follows:

1.Asiana Airlines (South Korea), 2.Cathay Pacific Airways (Hong Kong), 3.Kingfisher Airlines (India), 4.Malaysia Airlines (Malaysia), 5.Qatar Airways (Qatar), 6.Singapore Airlines (Singapore).

The five-star ranking recognizes airlines that offer a top quality product and service according to Skytrax - airlines that set trends to be followed by other carriers.

Other airlines in the world are given ratings from zero stars to four stars, depending on a broad criteria that examines more than 800 different areas of product and service delivery for each airline, for both ground and onboard operations.

But what about airlines with the worst safety record in the world and their plane crash odds? Who are the worst airlines in the world? For this we have to go to other sources of information.

Deciding which airlines have the worst safety records is much more difficult than judging the level of service offered by major airlines. This is because airline safety ratings in some of the less well-known airlines are difficult to compare with major airlines, given the routes, the service, the number of flights, etc.

However, when airline safety ratings are checked and carefully analysed, it becomes clear that some airlines are considerable worse than others. Here are the top ten worst airlines in the world in terms of accident ratings, with number one listed as the worst:

1.Cubana Airline, accident rating 5.74. 2.China Airlines, accident rating 3.57. 3.Avianca Colombian Airline, accident rating 3.15 4.TAM Airline, accident rating 2.76. 5.Korean Air, accident rating 2.26. 6.Egypt Air, accident rating 2.06. 7.Indian Air Lines, accident rating 1.94. 8.Taesa Airlines, accident rating 1.83. 9.China Soutwest Airlines, accident rating 1.74. 10.Aeromexico, accident rating 1.55.

The above list was researched by ‘Airline Accident Ratings’ for the 20-year period from 1981 to 2000 (the latest data). The ratings are based on number of flights, number of fatal accidents, and the fatality rate of those accidents. Clearly, this information cannot and should not be used to provide an accurate assessment of an airline safety rating or future risk of an accident. Furthermore, the list does not endorse or condemn any particular airline, and a lot can change in the period 2000 - 2008.

However, it is clear that some airlines have a very poor safety record and it is only right to bring this to the attention of the public.

When you examine airline safety ratings, one thing springs out: most causes of fatal airline accidents are due to pilot error. According to figures compiled over a fifty year period by ?Plane Crash Info?, pilot error accounts for 53% of all fatal airline accidents!

The figures for airline pilot error have on average remained pretty constant since the 1950’s, showing that modern technology is not leading to a reduction in the incidence of pilot error.

Guys kamusta naman experience ninyo in terms of FA relations with the passengers? Any excellent or worst experience?

Kase dati nga sa Northwest may bad experience kami ng mom ko from US Mainland back to Japan. My mom is old na, mid 70's na at di na sya ganun kalakas at nagkataon na kakain na... Ako kase asa may window seat kaya medyo alanganin na maabot ko yung table sa armrest nya.

Nagkataon naman na napatapat sa amin yung FA na lalake. She asked him to help her lift the table from her armrest pero ang sabi ba naman sa kanya eh:
"Oh madam, we are not that helpless are we?"
Sabi tuloy ng mama ko sa kanya:
"You are so rude! Instead of helping an old lady like me, that is all that you can say? Never mind! forget it!"

Very bad experiece for our part.

U.S. warns of 'serious concerns'

By Hrvoje Hranjski, Associated Press Writer MANILA —
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has downgraded
Philippine airline operations and put them under heightened
scrutiny because of their inadequate safety standards, the
U.S. Embassy said Tuesday.
The decision gives the Philippines a Category 2 rating along
with countries such as Bangladesh, Ivory Coast, Ghana and
Indonesia.
It means Philippine carriers can continue flying to the U.S.
but only "under heightened FAA surveillance," the embassy
said in a statement.
The embassy also advised Americans flying to and from the
Philippines to use carriers from countries whose civil aviation
authorities meet international standards.
Only one of the country's carriers, Philippine Airlines, currently
flies to the U.S. FAA rules stipulate that airlines from the Philippines
cannot expand services to the United States under a Category 2 rating.
The FAA informed the Philippine government it has "serious concerns"
about the oversight of Philippine air operations, which it said did not
comply with International Civil Aviation Organization safety standards.

A spokesman for the Philippine Transport Department, Thompson Lantion,
did not dispute the downgrade and said his department would conduct an
in-house investigation to determine the shortcomings and fix them.
He said it the Philippine Congress must pass proposed legislation to create
a Civil Aviation Authority to help modernize the country's system, and must
secure more funds for safety and aircraft maintenance.
Both houses of the Philippine Congress have already approved the bill,
but it still needs to be ratified in a joint session and signed by the president.
The head of the Air Transportation Office, Daniel Dimagiba, told the Business
Mirror newspaper that his annual budget of $32 million was spent mostly on
salaries and operating expenses. He said the office would need at least another
$24 million to upgrade navigational equipment and communications — money
that would become available when the CAA is set up.
On its website, the FAA says the Category 2 rating means the country lacks
laws or regulations needed for the certification and oversight of airlines under
minimum international standards.
Philippine Airlines President Jaime Bautista said the downgrade dampened hopes
of increasing its 33 flights a week to the U.S. Also affected will be the delivery of
six new Boeing 777-300ER airplanes ordered by the airline, he said.
He said the FAA rating does not reflect on the airline itself, but is an assessment
of the government's compliance

That's the FAA rating for airport and airline operations in the Philippines and not just relating to PAL. But all airports and airlines based in the Philippines flying international or domestic.

* Lady Rider--Northwest is a US airline and your mothers experience is more the norm than the exception. If you look at all the ratings US airlines are always near the bottom because it is union controlled. PAL is in a similar situation but at least you can still get decent service. Worst airlines are United, Continental, Northwest, American, etc.

Agree on both issues.

Have similar experiences with the FAs of United and Northwest (both TransPacific). Matanda at masungit ang kanilang mga FAs (Japan-US Mainland). Pero, pansin ko, may ilang FAs na tumitingin sa kulay, kahit na sabihin pang business class ka, kasi pag puti,- maayos naman silang magserbisyo

Iyong Japan to Manila,-okay naman dahil either Japanese or Filipina FAs ang nandoon....
