You mentioned something of the sort a couple of years ago, except naming Midea specifically: Window type aircon (inverter)

Doing some search, several Reddit and Quora threads popped up talking around this topic.

I think major brands now are rebadging Midea and/or Gree units for their smaller residential and SMB product offerings (ductless splits and window ACs) because it doesn't make sense for them to continue R&D when their cheap Chinese competitors are flooding the market. If you can't beat 'em....

That said, it seems that they still continue to design and innovate on their larger core HVAC systems, in-house.

Kinda like how Toyota rebadged Daihatsu units to capture a specific market segment, before they bought the company altogether.

just got a small a/c for an 8sq m cubicle

8k sa sm. 6k on lazada. astron brand, made by TCL, w/ some stupid marketing wankery "inverter class"

if it's good i'll buy another one for a camper trailer project. only 500-something watts, very easy to run from an inverter

    heh heh.

so i wonder, what's an "inverter class" ?

It's using the same refrigerant as current inverter A/Cs... that's it. Pure marketing.

Could it be that it is referring to an "inverter grade" type of aircon and not the refrigerant which I agree is the same?

Current consumer A/C technology does not have any definition for "inverter-class" or "inverter-grade". It either employs an inverter compressor (ie. variable-speed compressor) or it doesn't. There is no middle ground.

BUT, if you force an interpretation, it's just a marketing stretch to convey that the unit is consuming roughly about the same power as a slightly larger inverter A/C that is running at its minimum cooling capacity (ie. the compressor is spinning at its lowest speed). But still, it's apples and oranges.

So really, it bears no meaning aside from being a marketing gimmick to get your attention.

This is like the Peak Music Power Output (P.M.P.O) labels on overrated boomboxes. The large sticker in front might say it can do "5,000W P.M.P.O.", but in reality, it's just a system that can roughly make 50W RMS.... if at all.

and it's got only one star.
    the etiketa says it all.

    anyway,
we appreciate a feedback from actual use.

The one star rating sums it all, it's the less efficient AC compare to any other brand/units with 0.6hp.
Grabe marketing dito, para lang hindi mapansin ang one star i nilagyan ng inverter class dahil sa R32.
Where in fact, R32 is the new refrigerant being pushed right now to replace the r410a due to it contributes less to climate change/global warming.

If all ACs will be using R32 once mapasa yung regulation to use R32 as refrigerant, lahat ACs magiging inverter class na, hehe.

so i got it installed all by myself

apparently these small units don't have a drain tube so the water is supposed to splash all over the condenser to help cool it

    i wonder,
would drilling a drain hole help in preventing rust?

Yes, but it's going to be inefficient at cooling.

I went for the best of both worlds. I drilled a hole with a way to plug it as needed.

If I use the A/C a lot, I leave the hole plugged. But if I don't plan to use it for a few days, I'd let the condensate drain out.
