i like it best there in springtime (april to mid-may) - of course the sakura festival is the highlight.

second during autumn (mid-november) specifically in nagano pref. - the colors of the mountains during the time of the year is really awesome.

winter, not so much. though you can try some winter sports this time of the year.

the least i like is during summer (july-august). the only consolidation during this time of the year is the hanabi festival (the style varies between areas, but the one in niigata pref. usually is the biggest).
