September 15th, 2005 10:28 AM #24I'd suggest secondhand guitars, you can check out the music section of buyandsellph.com, you might find good prices on Yamaha or Morris guitars. Stay away from the really cheap ones, they don't stay in tune, and they sound frustratingly thin and tinny. Unfortunately, most guitars under 20k are made out of laminated wood, and that doesn't really make for good timbre. However, the korean-made Ovations are decent buys at 12k-14k, and if taken care of, will last. And if your daughter doesn't want it anymore, at least there's a bit of resale value in the guitar, unlike Montanas or Lumanogs.
My vote goes to steel-string acoustic guitars. Classical guitars (nylon-strung) are techinically harder to play as they have much wider fretboards. If your daughter intends to play pop or rock and not Asturias or Bach, go steel-string. You can use extra-light gauge strings so that it's easier on the fingers.
Goodluck.

The one that broke while tuning came from lumanog. Malambot yung kahoy na ginamit, kaya nag break while tuning. No wonder i bought for 700 pesos.
Blugirl, san yung lyric sa megamall. i'll try to see it tomorrow.Bukas na ba sila by 10AM.? Is it a YAMAHA?

As per advise of a neighbor who tutors at RJ, nylon string is preferred for beginners, kasi masakit daw ang steel strings.
