she ranted about the discrimination she got while studying here in manila just because she hailed from the visayas and i have to agree w/ her. since i spent a big chunk of my twenties in davao city (and not to mention my parents are of visayan and mindanoan extracts too), i've heard stories about this kind of localized discrimination from friends and girls i have dated alike.
come to think of it, back in college i had cebuano schoolmates and friends in "liberal" ateneo who were really miffed by this unfair ostracism since their tagalog was poor and they had a hard time expressing themselves in pilipino subjects ( most especially in philosophy where classes were mostly held in deep flowery tagalog). for some reason the davaoenos, ilonggos, and bacolodnons had a better grasp of the "national language" than my cebuano peers so they assimilated better in the campus
so it got me wondering, do peeps from ilocos, pampanga, tarlac, batangas and other luzon provinces experience the same kind of vicious bigotry from manilenos. i know they're unfortunately ridiculed too but i think not in the same level of our visayan and mindanaon siblings
