I splurged a bit on my videographer because I really like his style. Among the dozens of SDEs I've watched on YouTube and Vimeo, his videos stand out because they tell a good story and the cinematography is very candid and natural.

For the photog, I spent weeks researching and comparing different suppliers. Surprisingly, we ended up with a photog that wasn't on my shortlist. We met him at last week's wedding fair and I was pleasantly suprised at how clean his post-processing was. Nakakaumay kasi yung overexposed photos na common sa mga photogs ngayon.

I haven't paid much attention to the gown although my fiancé and I share the same sentiments - it doesn't have to be expensive because you only wear it once, and perfect fit trumps brand name so it's all about getting it tailored right. And yes I agree that gowns really look better if you're not fat.

Re: the gown getting a really nice one only matters if your wife to be is the type who'd like to pass it on to your daughter. Otherwise, money better spent elsewhere imho.

For me the food has to be good. It can be simple fare but it has to be good and served timely. That's the one thing that guests remember the most.

Sad truth is most suppliers overprice when it comes to weddings. And you can't really get the cheapest guys because they tend to be the ones that let people down.

Remember the wedding is mostly for the bride. If you can, get her what she wants. You only get married once. (Hopefully) 😉

Yeah I've budgeted that as well. Not a month-long trip though, a week is enough for us.

We're not splurging on the gown so we're not eyeing for the top-tier designers. She's got a shortlist of a few up and coming ateliers with more reasonable prices, although we really haven't given it much thought since the wedding is still quite far off.

For the food, we had to spend a bit because out-of-town fees in Tagaytay are quite high. Just got a mid-range package though then we'll just add snacks after the church ceremony and of course cocktails at the reception before the program starts.

In the FB group, there are a lot of "budgetarian brides" as they call themselves. Cheapest like this and that. Every now and then there are some really good finds, but for the most part you really get what you pay for. It takes a lot of research to find great suppliers at relatively low prices, but the savings are worth the effort.

I agree that the wedding is mostly for the bride. I've been quite frugal my entire working life, so this is one of the moments that I splurge a bit to make our one and only wedding a beautiful and memorable one.

Bro- If the reception area where the cocktails are going to be served is just a few minutes drive from the church,- in the weddings I recently attended,- about 15min drive as Tagaytay traffic is not that bad after the intersection with Alfonso/Bag of Beans,- then I would recommend to forego of the snacks after the church ceremony... Baka maging messy pa kasi.. I am sure the guests would adjust to the arrangements, naman and would not mind..

Funny thing is, if you ask the guys who cater to other events as well, you'll find that they charge less for the same stuff if it's not a wedding. 😞

Another thing I forgot to mention is the importance of an on the day wedding coordinator. Someone who makes sure suppliers come on time and things go on smoothly and as scheduled.

Our reception is about a 30-40 min drive from the church so some guests might get hungry along the way. I'm thinking of preparing some light snacks that they can eat while in the car en route to the reception just to be sure.

As for the balancing act, at first I wanted to be as budgetarian as possible, but then ultimately decided that some things are worth paying extra for since the incremental happiness more than covers the incremental cost. Overall, it still doesn't exceed the original budget I allotted, which actually is less than half what my other friend is spending on her wedding (although they're sharing the cost with their parents so they really got to splurge a bit).

Oh yes, wedding inflation is very real. Costs go up around 10-20% a year, much much higher than the average inflation rate of 2-3%. [emoji58]

The OTD coord is the next supplier we're eyeing to book. I've read a lot of stories of how all the hard work for the preps came undone because of a crappy coordinator.

After the med board exams in September, we plan to drill down every single detail to make sure everything's taken care of.

I say give your wife to be whatever she wants for the wedding. If you have to splurged on name brand gown so be it. Kahit one time lang gamitin.

Meron pa pala additonal expense yun mga jewelries na gagamitin ng bride. Additonal regalo mo pa yun plus the his and her na watches.
