Peer-pressure, especially when the rest of her friends had theirs, and grand ones at that.

A couple of years ago, one of our colleagues spent close to a couple of million pesos for her daughter's debut.... Well, I'd say it was grand alright.

    Coughing money...

^ depende pa din sa celebrant yan. Most of my lady friends back in college didn't do debuts. Yes nagpakain sila sa restos pero wala na iyong 18 roses and all that pomp & circumstance. Can afford naman iyong mga iyon

to be or not to be, that always confuses me!

Times are a changin' dear bro....

Nuon ang pangarap, maging professional.... Ngayon ang pangarap, maging artista....

Nuon natural colors ang buhok; Ngayon, kahit saan ka tumingin halos lahat,- maninisid ng talaba....

    Epekto ng media.....

I don't know anyone na pangarap maging artista.

But yes I do find it tacky when Filipinos color their hair blonde or light brown. Only caucasians (not even all) can get away with that. I also see men with blonde colored hair

Maybe because your field is homogeneous.....

Try taking a swag of the cross-section of our society,- and you'll be amazed....

They see fame, glamour, easy money [and a ticket out] of their situation... Everything instant,- everything easy money....

And I thought society things being an "artista" is tacky. It doesn't matter how much money comes with it.

Pag tambay na lassengo napangasawa pwede maging pacyou yun anak.

You have a point about the peer pressure thing. I've been ranting for the longest time about playing driver/chaperone everytime there's such an event (which is like about 1 every 5 weeks) for her friends.

I guess some people really want to be a celebrity even for just a few hours.
