I had a College buddy. The father is a postal worker & the mom is a housewife & sells on the side. They lived in a rundown house in a rundown part of Caloocan. The thing is, he is very bright & very very sociable, easy & fun to be with. After school, he worked in sales of a small drug company & was pirated by another local drug distributor. He did so well there that eventually, he became the GM, travels all over the world to meet pharma producers. Given SUVs every 5 years. He now lives in La Vista & has a home in NZ since his kids studied & now works there. It’s a combination of luck, being at the right place at the right time, good decision & great EQ:IQ ratio.
Another friend who works for AMKOR Phl was so good, he was a regional sales head in SEA & goes around SEA 3-4 days of the week. Promoted to Sales head in Asia. After a year, asked to head an office in the US. He goes back to the Phl every weekend then back to US Monday. After a few months, he got tired of it & asked the office if he can just bring his family along. Pumayag naman, so till now, they are in the US.
These guys are normal guys who made their money through hard work, but not by hard work alone. They had the smarts & luck to go with it.
