Yes bro. Very limited opportunities during high school or university days to go out of my regular routes/schedules because of meager/very tight allowance and I have to give focus on my studies....

However, never failed to get to know the people in our area, from all levels of life - good and bad ... Those experiences helped me through this journey.....

You never left the house that much? I don't think I can handle that. I mean, there were a lot of times I was broke too. But, that never stopped me from going out and having fun. Just cycling around the Pamplona/Alabang/Sucat/Cavite area was lots of fun. I probably got into places I shouldn't have been to. But, that was part of the excitement. During school break when I was done with my chores, I'd be gone not to be seen again until supper time. I still had a curfew.

I also spent a lot of time visiting and staying over with friends. So long as a friend can vouch for me, my mom didn't mind me staying over a weekend at a friend's house and vice versa. My mom loved to see me bring friends home with me. She would prepare a nice dinner for them and make room for sleeping over. The only time she was a bit curious is when I brought over some female friends. Of course, I reassured her that they were just friends, nothing romantic.

The LPC area bro, not the house... Curfew was a big thing....

Those were the days when the villages were open fields and we'd stay with friends until late at night, either bicycling around our village or just spending time chatting about what have we.... Have you gone dipping at "balkon"???

Yes, you were broke. But not your parents... In my case, we were broke.... I believe that your condition then compared to ours - we were poles apart....

I liked those days when there were still a lot of open fields. Any shade would feel refreshing because of the breeze. We all had curfews. We were both minors back then. Nothing we can do about that.

I'm not familiar with "balkon." Perhaps it goes by another name. I did much of my swimming at Philamlife Village. I think I also swam at a place called Lozada. I also spent a lot of time swimming at Covelandia (Island Cove?), usually with my cousins who lived nearby. I used to swim at Manila Bay (at Binakayan) during high tide. But, I quit after I saw sh*t floating near us. My mom had to bring me to a clinic and make sure I didn't get a skin disease.

Thinking if I should surprise my boss in HQ with a gift for his 25th anniversary at the company. Or maybe I should just wait for his birthday.

ha ha ha! I just appreciate him a lot. I feel guilty because I sent a birthday git for my other boss, but I was not able to send him anything for his anniversary.

NOooooo! Is it so wrong to give your boss a gift? I did the same recently for my other boss and for my colleague friends (birthdays are very special for me) I just like making people I like feel special. It makes me feel good.

And besides he said I am his kid at work. I guess I trigger a fatherly instinct in him. I kinda have that effect on people

the thread is entitled, "what are you thinking about?"
my input has nothing to do with cathy's inputs.
yesterday kasi, in a radio program, jullie was re-promoting her (old) book and the upcoming movie based (daw) on the book.. she says she got interesting calls from prominent people, including politicians, because the book's launch at that time, coincided with an election(?). and everybody then, thought every other candidate had a mistress.. she said, joker arroyo called her and said, "julie, what have you done!"
wala.. i just thought about it, and will look for a copy.. i am curious what its contents are all about..

    kayo talagah...! mga maduduming isip!

if i had cathy in mind, i would have told her straight, "cathy, you should read this book!"

Dith Pran's (1942-2008) birthday would have been today (according to Wiki). He was a survivor of the Cambodian genocide and the focus of the movie, "The Killing Fields."

The recent death of my former landlady still lingers. She was like a third mom to me, taking care of all my stuff at home, even packing lunch for me. We (along with her hubby) often ate out and played bingo together. She was also the one who introduced me to my ex-fiancee back in Oklahoma. So, yeah. I'm treading carefully when the wife is around.

If my wife (and her family) ever get done rebuilding their business in Leyte, I just know we'll be spending a lot of time in the PH. If that time ever comes, I would volunteer to man a weather (observing) station on the northermost islands of the country. So long as I have a two-way radio and shelter/supplies, I'd probably like the isolation and cooler climate. Have the PH Navy drop off supplies as needed..... Kinda like being the coastwatchers of WW2.

    Fishing? Exactly!

If the PH government wants to fly the flag that far north, someone has to stay there. I figured setting up a weather station is a good excuse. I don't mind staying up there for a month so long as I have food, drinking water, and shelter. Obviously, I'll need a radio to keep in touch with the main Batanes islands.

Sending weather observations doesn't take more than 5 minutes per hour. I can spend the rest of the time performing maintenance or going fishing. I've been alone in the jungles of Colombia and deserts in the Middle East. So, being alone isn't new to me.

After a month, I get relieved by someone else. Then, the wife and I rent a motel room somewhere.
