If you can afford it I would suggest getting an external maxtor drive.

SATA/PATA refers to the interface (cable) connecting to it.

Diamond, Barracuda etc. refer to the model line.

just get those sold sa pcx or pccorner. sata/pata, you will have to upgrade your cables and i think your mobo also.

internal HDDs yun fafa glenn. usually more expensive ang mga external units.

ewan ko lang dito, but from work experience with US customers, western digital hard drives fail early.

sir glen yung external hdd ay mas mahal. (ranging from $100 - $200USD)yung maxtor one touch na lang kung external ang habol mo. nakagamit na ako noon (asteg na pang store ng videos!!!)...meron itong USB interface at the same time may firewire interface ...USB interfaces have slower transfer rates compared to firewire interfaces...
well ok lang naman na USB cable ang gagamitin kung hindi mo ieedit yung video, hindi naman magiging sluggish ang panonood mo. but if you'll be processing your video (eg, gagamit ka ng video editing software), mas maganda kung firewire cable ang gagamitin mo.

interface nga pala eh yung mode of cable...

    hope this helps.

    MARAMING SALAMAT!!

hindi ko naman kailangan ng mabilis na transfer rate kasi purely for storage lang naman ito.

internl hd kailangan ko yata plus the casing

You can buy a USB to IDE adapter to connect any IDE device to your PC... Downside to using this is the transfer rate is slower than using direct IDE connection. I use this to temporarily connect harddisks to my computer.

http://www.villman.com/products/prod...?catid=mobrack <<ito yung mga sinasabi kong casing.

ano ano bang hd's ang pwede dito?

ghost: so you have an internal hd that you put into a external rack/casing then connect it to your pc?

no casing... just the harddisk and the USB to IDE adapter. It might not be neat... but it can look cool in a geeky sort of way.

It's also handy if you want to change external hard disks in a snap, just disconnect the USB from the PC then powerdown the harddisk and swap HDDs.

Note: the USB/IDE adapter comes with an external powersupply for the harddisk.

BTW, the USB/IDE adapter only costs less than P900.

there are a lot of cheap external enclosures for 2.5 - 3.5" HDs out there. here in the office, we bought a Matrix 5.25" aluminum enclosure, with usb/firewire interface. medyo malaki sya, pero you can plug in a CD drive. we've been testing it with 200-300gb drives, wala namang problema, although medyo mainit (the case has a fan btw).

PATA = parallel ATA. this is the common HDs on sale, ung malalapad ang cables
SATA = serial ATA. next generation HD interface. me potential for faster transfer rates, and, if you're dealing with a lot of HDs, mas malinis tignan because of the thinner cables.

costs around 2k dude...admittedly build quality is pretty crude, pero it does the job. complaint ko lang is that it doesn't have LED indicators for power, drive activity, etc. medyo hassle rin ang pagtanggal/pagkabit ng HD, since you need to unscrew the nuts, etc.

visit the new carpark mall sa Greenhills shopping complex, ung tapat ng Virra Mall; that's were we got ours.

there are a lot of external enclosures out there though, of varying prices/quality/designs

if you're not that particular with the speed, plain vanilla HDs should be ok na. imho the additional cost of SATA and the SATA PCI card/SATA motherboard just doesn't justify itself at this point. ang kalaban mo kasi is ung mechanicals ng HDs -- e.g. drive head motor, access times -- which, afaik, can't even take full advantage of the ATA133(PATA) interface.

If speed is not a concern go with what ghosthunter said... external HDs are expensive specially the 200Gig variant. Regarding SATA and IDE, check your mobo if its SATA enabled, if not stick with the IDE for now... SATA has a faster data transfer rate and if you're buying a new PC you should consider this, cables are thinner making for better air flow in your case, plus price difference isn't that big.

actually..sa laptop namin gagamitin.my sister and i have laptops.eh mejo puno na yung internal hd's namin so we want to store the files in an external hd.

i saw pata and sata for sale na 160gig for less than 5k.

questions: ito bang mga ito ay compatible sa kahit anong external casing?

yung mga external casing ba macoconnect ito sa usb? o sa ibang ports ito ikkabit?

so advice niyo is PATA nalang? (vtw: malaki yung akin.hehehe)

    maraming salamat.naliwanagan ako.
