    Paternoster lift

A paternoster lift is a passenger elevator, consisting of a chain of open compartments, each usually designed for two people, that move slowly in a loop up and down inside a building without stopping. Passengers can step on or off at any floor they like.

According to Google Translate, "Pater Noster" (Latin) is "Our Father."

I think dr.d is saying that if the elevator is named after the rosary then reference to Hail Mary would have been better.

Windshield wipers’ overlooked female inventor | Popular Science
Mary Anderson patented the device in 1903—only to be told her idea had no commercial value.

Mary Anderson couldn’t sell her windshield wiper idea

Anderson, for her part, did want to sell her window-cleaning device. For at least a year-and-a-half, she hawked her invention to manufacturers in the fledgling motor vehicle industry. Each responded with some variation of the rejection sent by Montreal firm Dinning & Eckenstein on June 20, 1905: “We regret to state that we do not consider [the window-cleaning device] to be of such commercial value as would warrant our undertaking its sale.”
    When cars got windshield wipers

Five years after Mary Anderson was issued her patent, car maker Henry Ford introduced his Ford Model T. Five years later, Ford introduced the moving assembly line, an innovation which drastically lessened the time it took to build the car and greatly reduced its cost to consumers.

As cars became ubiquitous across the U.S., manufacturers’ eyes were opened to the value of the windshield wiper. By the early 1920s, a version of Anderson’s invention became standard on most vehicles.

Anderson likely never earned any royalties or licensing fees since her U.S. Patent No. 743,801 expired in 1920. Indeed, car manufacturers didn’t use her exact design.

Today I learned that those tiny black dots on our vehicle's windshields are called "frits".

"Windshield frits are the black, enamel-painted bands and dot gradients baked onto the edges of car glass, functioning as a bonding surface for sealant, a,UV shield for that adhesive, and a thermal regulator to reduce stress-induced cracks. They also provide a polished aesthetic, hiding unsightly adhesive from view."

Why Do We Use 'O'Clock' When Telling Time? | HuffPost
We say it every day, but so many people have no idea what that little 'O' stands for.
    by Caroline Bologna

O’clock” is a shortened form of the phrases “of the clock” and “of clock,” which people began using to communicate the time after the invention of clocks. Saying it was five “of the clock” essentially meant five “according to the clock.”

“When mechanical clocks became more widespread in Europe around the 14th century, people needed a way to distinguish the hour shown on a clock from other ways of telling time, such as by the sun or church bells,” said Esteban Touma, a cultural and linguistic expert at the language-learning app Babbel. “If someone said ‘three,’ that could once have meant three hours after sunrise or simply a rough point in the day. Saying ‘three of the clock’ clarified that you meant the specific hour indicated on a mechanical clock face.”

Interesting. Thanks. Hope we don't get to the point where we refer to the atomic clock. Ha ha.

Kaya pala umubos ng battery ang car stereo???

Having nothing much to do yesterday, I decided to wash and wax the cars in the garage. Sobrang tahimik, parang pandemic lockdown yung buong paligid due to the Lent season so after the 2rd car, I opened the doors of the car sa dulo ng garage and turned on the stereo to play my favorite soundtracks at a moderate volume while I worked on the remaining vehicles.

After finishing the last car mga 2-3 hours later, I switched off the stereo. For some reason, I checked the battery voltage (cigarette plug type, not multi tester) and was surprised the remaining voltage left was 12.2!!!

Ganyan na pala kalakas kumain ng battery ang mga stereo ngayon? In the old days, I was taught by the Banaue boys that hindi kaya umubos ng battery yan- these were the days na wala pang mga CPU & fancy electricals ang mga sasakyan. Also, confident ako hindi ma-drain because it was a brand new, 3 day old Amaron NS60 battery that I charged in full to 12.8v after I installed it. Mind you, walang amp & woofer setup etc., just the typical stock 25W 2 speaker stereo system lang and stock touch screen head unit kasi yun lang yung naka install sa kotse sa dulo. Hindi nga lang naka pihit yung ignition to ACC setting only when I switched it on though, but all the way to on (but engine not running of course, ma carbon monoxide poisoning ako). I wonder if that had something to do with it?

Mabuti na lang I checked the voltage kaya I was able to immediately hook it up to my battery maintainer bago siya ma damage. Yun pa naman yung nakaharang sa gate ng garage so I wouldn't be able to get any cars out if it didn't start na after the holidays. Kaya pa naman maka start ng kotse ang 12.2V but still...

Ganyan na pala mga kotse ngayon?

Likely the screen. Remember the screen is biggest power drain on a phone.

probably depends also on your HU's power requirement...

i'd be interested in finding out the battery's health status.
mebbe it is on its way to dying of old age...?

i once left my innova's one filament-ed dome light on, overnight. 8 hours.
the battery was dead and un-revive-able the next morning.
it was a several months' recently-acquired pre-owned car. dunno just how old that battery was.

The stock battery of my 2024 Santa Fe died after just 18 months. I suspected that perhaps it was an old stock from Korea, but more likely ang daming accessories na ng mga bagong kotse ngayon, hundreds of sensors being monitored by the ECU, bluetooth, wifi, GPS, auto headlights, DRLs, wireless/wired chargers, cameras, etc. My friend's new-gen Corolla also had the same issue with batteries.
