Today I learned that those tiny black dots on our vehicle's windshields are called "frits".
"Windshield frits are the black, enamel-painted bands and dot gradients baked onto the edges of car glass, functioning as a bonding surface for sealant, a,UV shield for that adhesive, and a thermal regulator to reduce stress-induced cracks. They also provide a polished aesthetic, hiding unsightly adhesive from view."
