Researchers solve Rubik’s Cube in 26 moves
By Humphrey Cheung
Friday, June 01, 2007

Boston (MA) - Researchers at Northeastern University claim that they can solve any Rubik’s Cube puzzle in 26 moves, one move better than the previous record. Using grid computers that calculated at 100,000,000 times a second, Computer science professor Gene Cooperman and graduate student Dan Kunkle can pinpoint the correct set of moves “in about a second”.

Ten years ago, researchers at UCLA said they solved the puzzle, no matter how complicated the configuration, in 27 moves. This in itself was quite a feat because the six-sided colored cube has more than 43 quintillion combinations – that’s 4 followed by 19 zeros. Not to mention that computing technology wasn’t nearly as advanced as the stuff we have today.

Cooperman and Kunkle put all the combinations into 7 terabytes worth of tables on a grid computer system run by Teragrid.org. Those combinations were then pre-sorted through at 100,000,000 times a second.

Nakakamiss na din laruin yung rubik's cube na yan pero hindi ako makabuo in my whole life time. Hmmmm.

during college days in mapua..my bf (whos now my husband) taught me how to solve this..(may pattern po ito)..ok...then nagkaron ng challenge between the two of us who can solve it the fastest..there was one instance that i was able to solve it in 8secs...i dont know how i did it but it was a feat i wasnt able to repeat again...probably not even in my lifetime.

i dismattle the cube and put it back in order... pero it takes more than 2 minutes to do it, hehehe.

26 moves does that means 26 turns....wow that is a feat.

vtec..sa experience ko kasi...pinakamaganda yung orig na rubik's..marami na kasing lumabas na imitations..yung orig kasi maganda ang allignment ng cubes at smooth pag inikot, di sumasablay..
anyway..pag bumili ka ng orig may kasamang pattern yan na sinusunod...importanteng ma-solve yung 1st and 2nd layer (hindi by face)..then may lumalabas na pattern dun sa last layer which will be your guide face..in each pattern na lumalabas may corresponding move...kahit di ka nakatingin pwede yan basta kabisado mo.
