The SX720's zoom range is equivalent to 24-960mm on an SLR. 960mm!!!
My longest zoom lens is just 70-300mm, and at 300mm, the shots are already soft. I try to use it like a 70-200 most of the time to retain sharpness.
But at 960mm, that p&s can shoot 3x closer than my bulky lens.

*Jun, that's why I prefer using Auto or the P-mode 😀
*jut, I also used to shoot with a 300mm lens on a Nikon DSLR before, but found it bulky to bring and not sharp enough. Low light performance was horrible.
I was actually blown away by the 30x (25-750mm) zoom on my compact P&S. It does have Canon's Digic6 image processor (used in their top line DSLR), and image stabilization feature. Even hand held and at night time, the images are surprisingly good enough. The leap in imaging technology is impressive.
One feature that smartphones can't touch.... yet (?)

The SX720 (40x) was just released, this means that the SX710 (30x) will be discounted soon.
I bought mine last year when Canon PH had a factory sale. I chose the SX700 which was on sale for 13k++, plus lots of freebies and extended 3-year warranty.
Now it's always inside my man-purse 😁

Oh. I'm not normally forgetful. It's just that I'm on break and I'm supposed to be doing yard work. You know, pulling weeds, trimming tree branches, raking dead grass/leaves plus other things the wife demanded. I'm not supposed to be goofing off with the camcorder. He He
