Parang nga pati IQ ko nababawasan sa kapapnood ng pinoy films esp yung mga pang-masa daw. Baba na EQ, nabawasan pa IQ. tsk tsk

Although the great majority of Pinoy films are nothing more than money making schemes for their producers, there have been a number of good films I've seen in the past that have a good story and good acting. Among these are:

    - Kakabakabakaba ka ba?
    - Sister Stella L
    - Scorpio Nights (the original one, required viewing for us in UP)
    - Jose Rizal
    - Muro-ami
    - Dekada 70
    - Bata bata, paano ka ginawa?

Discussion topic namin to over lunch before.

It seems the old movies had better storylines (i.e. Maynila sa Kuko ng Liwanag, Batch 81). Today, it seems they just get whomever is the "in actor/actress" and make a script to suit that tandem.

Nawawala na rin ang mga tunay na action stars. Panay pa-pretty boys nalang.

Because showbiz in this country is extremely political and profit-driven.

The ones with actual talent but not much political webbing get shoved out while the mediocre ones are let in provided that they know the right people and the proper way of "greasing" them.

Big money comes in if a lot of people watch their movies/shows. Which is the biggest group of people in this country? You know the answer.

This is the reason why local showbiz these days is tailored to cater to the lowest common denominator, designed to sacrifice art, production quality, and talent all for the sake of having "enough" (Pwede na yan!) to please the low standards of the majority and, most of all, to earn big money.

Kaya nga puro corny love stories na lang with titles taken from extremely overused and overplayed old love songs; and "kicking-a-dead-horse" sequels of "original" ideas.

    Story is king.

Isn't there a film making school in the Philippines? The graduates must have good ideas.

Any film students here in Tsikot?
