Like father like son. Before the age of the multi-tool, there were utility knives and Swiss Army knives. My dad had a few similar to this one.

It does look pretty similar. They probably come from the same american (?) manufacturer.

That pic above reminds me of the 1960's buck knife i have that was given to me in 1993, i think. Like all quality knives back in the day, its blade is steel w/c made it prone to rusting. That's the reason why i don't use it anymore and is now a permanent fixture in my drawer (after losing track of it for over a decade).

the manufacturers probably came to the same conclusion, after individual research and experimentation, that this is the best design. hence the look-alikes.
it's probably the same reasoning why many of today's streamlined cars look similar to each other.
or my personal favorite: why the US f-86 sabre and the russian mig 15 look and perform like each other...

The case knife on the top was made back in the 1960' s. That was the one i was referring to earlier. I think its handle is made of an animal horn or something. I don't think it's plastic.

I remember when it was handed to me, the blades were so encrusted w/ rust, i had to go to the hortaleza vaciador near us to have those steel edges sharpened & restored.

I actually haven't seen this for ages. i thought i lost it for good. I just stumbled upon it recently when i was going through my old badminton racket bag, w/c i haven't used nor opened in almost a decade.

The one on the bottom is an ordinary brazilian tramontina utility knife. It's just special to me because of the etching our artistic painter (rip) made on its handle. [emoji4]
