Nice one badkuk. Federico Pascual was clever. Pero totoo man o hindi and kwento ni Faye, talagang mali priorities natin. And guess what, we get what we deserve!
If we INSIST on WEAK political leaders (we VOTED for them, didn't we?) that's who we get.
If we INSIST on hyped, shallow media shows (we salivate and waste time over variety shows, don't we?), that's what we get.
If we INSIST on corrupt law enforcement (we'd rather pay "kotong" and "lagay", don't we?) then thats exactly the kind of police and military force we get.
..and,
If we INSIST on selling original CDs at more than P100 then pirated CDs are what we get. (Teka paano napunta yan dyan? hehehe=)

ITO ANG SAGOT KUNG BAKIT MISPLACED ANG PRIORITIES NG PINOY. DI KO MATANDAAN KUNG PINOST KO NA ITO
A transcript from the editorial page of PDI dated
December 30, 2003
by Carlos Alfonso Q. Santos
KEEP THEM STUPID
Every time my friends and I go out for dinner, our
conversation
almost invariably turns to politics. My friend Chico
likes to think
its because were sophisticated, well educated, high
minded and
accomplished professionals, but I think its more
because theres a
limit to how long we can talk about Kris aquinos
sordid love affairs
before going cross-eyed.
Don't get me wrong. When we talk politics, we hardly
ever analyze it.
We just take potshots at politicians, saying things
like, "Erap is a
turd". One of my more articulate friends might amplify
that statement
by saying, "Erap is a big fat turd." And that's
usually pretty much
the extent of our discussions on politics, since, most
of us have
neither the time nor the energy to go through the
newspapers to look
for real news. (News by definition is an event that
affects a lot of
people, and Kris Aquino contracting STD is not news,
except someone
who had *** with her)
Sometimes we do get into a serious discussion about
our country's
sorry state. We wonder how an otherwise intelligent
people almost
always end up voting absolute morons into office. Some
ignorant,
pseudo-liberal American expatriates opine that we have
defective
brains, a thesis I refuse to accept for reasons of
pride. I think
were no dumber than Californians who elected Ahhnuld
governor. The
answer lies in an organization established long ago to
prevent the
development of critical thinking among Filipinos. It
is called
NATIONAL IQ REDUCTION COMMISSION.
The NIQRC was founded in 1521 by a bunch of starving
Spanish
conquistadors in Limasawa. The conquest was not going
well. They were
hopelessly lost ( they were really looking for
Malacca) and Lapu-lapu
had just killed Magellan. The Spaniards realized that
if they wanted
to claim the land they would have to make the natives
dumber. So they
began a number of IQ reduction programs, all
coordinated by NIQRC.
The most successful initiative at that time was taken
by the Catholic
Church. The fraile (Spanish word for "horny cretin")
pretended to
preach gospel, but actually aimed to impose blind
obedience and
servitude. Every Sunday, homilies throughout the
archipelago
essentially revolved around on them: You are dirty,
uneducated,
learning impaired idiots who need white men to manage
your affairs.
When the Americans bought the Philippines three
centuries later, they
asked the Spaniards what the secret was to holding on
to a colony for
so long. A former governor general answered, "Its
simple: "KEEP THEM
STUPID"
The Americans took this advice to heart and did their
utmost in
keeping our Iqs low. Instead of using the Church,
however, they
established the public school system. Practically
every government
ministry was eventually turned over to a
Filipino-except the
Department of Education (I am not making this up I
swear). With a
conscending smile and a great deal of false charm, the
Americans
taught English and Math and the Boogie, but left
Critical Thinking
out of purpose. They were afraid that if anyone
actually started
thinking , we would realize that it was just a little
bit weird that
the United States, itself a former colony that had to
wage a bloody
revolution to win its freedom, was now taking the
right self-
determination away from another people.
The Americans left after World War II when they
realized it was too
expensive to fix a worn torn country. (they kept Guam
though, for
posterity's stake)
Our nations new leaders retained the NIQRC, now a
major albeit
invisible force. They had to find another way of
keeping us stupid
though. Sunday Mass was no longer effective since no
one went to
church anymore and those who did invariably fell
asleep after the
entrance hymn. The public school system, on the other
hand, was too
expensive. If the government had to build schools, pay
teachers and
buy books, there would be hardly enough funds to set
aside for graft
and corruption (which eats up 50% of our national
budget per annum)
So under the auspices of the elected officials of the
newly
independent Philippine Republic, the folks over at the
NIQRC received
a new mandate: set a cost effective IQ reduction
program. They, of
course, outdid themselves and cooked up the best
scheme yet: THE SOAP
OPERA.
It is scientifically proven fact that soap operas
decrease an average
human's IQ by half a point per episode. The characters
and story
lines are so flat and utterly lacking in depth that
the viewers IQ
almost invariably drops.
I am one of the lucky few who are resistant to this
unhappy effect: I
watched Glayds Reyes torment Judy Ann Santos in Mara
Clara for 10
years, yet I still know haw tu spel.
Moreover, the soaps had an effect that not even the
NIQRC foresaw:
people who remained glued to the TV long enough not
only reduced
their IQ but also developed an alternate escapist
reality,
delusional, make believe world where they are Claudine
barretos best
friend, Jolina Magdangal's text mate or Jericho
Rosales' lover. We
developed a relationship with the cast that was so
intense that we
mistook reel life from real life. Episode after
episode, our deadened
minds and souls shared the characters' joys, fears,
hopes, loves,
aspirations and dreams, only to forget our own
aspirations and
dreams. We neglected the world we inhabited, society
in danger of
imploding from decades, nay centuries, of cultural,
intellectual and
moral stagnation. We sank to the depths of ignorance
and self-
delusion-and elected Erap president. What absolute
folly!
That's where we are now. Unless we start doing
something about it, I
am afraid that the twisted minds who run the NIQRC are
well on their
way to putting FPJ in Malacanang, pardoning Erap and
setting us back
another century or two. Those of us who are addicted
to soap operas
must realize that these are designed to reduce our IQ
and disconnect
us from reality. The addiction isn't hard to
break-repeat after me:
"krisitne Hermosa is not my long-lost sister"
"Claudine Barreto is not my best friend"
"Jericho Rosales is not in love with me"
"I am not the long lost daughter of a wealthy
industrialist"
And finally,
"I will not vote for FPJ in the coming presidential
elections despite
the fact that I think Susan Roces will make a lovely
first lady"
Say these again and again, and the spell will be
broken. I am afraid
though, that it may be too late. Should FPJ win, those
of us who have
successfully gotten out of IQ reduction programs will
have just have
to sigh, move on and resist the urge to jump into
Manila Bay and swim
to Vietnam.

November 4th, 2004 04:44 PM #37Unbelivable din ang number of families in the US who dreams for their kid para maging artista sa Pinas. How about, dreaming for their kid to be a scholar?
Mga iba, hindi pa marunong magtagalog. Mga iba, Canadian/US citizen. Mga iba, they changed their name to an american surname. Whatever happened to home grown real pinoy on TV? Nora Aunor would not make it in today's pinoy TV.Last edited by jolog1; November 4th, 2004 at 07:35 PM.

November 5th, 2004 07:18 PM #39hhmmm..hoax nga siguro kwento ni faye..a predictable product of one's imagination overflowing with despair and hopelessness at the way our past & present leaders made a helluva mess of the future of our beloved country..pupulutin kayo lahat sa impyerno..!
sabi nga ng karamihan: "diskartehan na lang mga kapatid.."or as what they say in my home province to connote tight budgeting & survival strategy: bugas-bugas na lang ni to`..!
