Mallrats maze: Netizens square off on the most confusing mall in PH

So who’s the worst mall planner: Sy, Ayala, or Gokongwei ?

What started as a simple tweet quickly blew up into a lively debate on Twitter as netizen *qarloscuiapo lamented just how tedious it was to navigate the SM-run Podium mall in Ortigas.

Others quickly shared their frustration. Some claimed SM Megamall with its four buildings hold the record as the most confusing site, while others claim it‘s Glorietta in Makati or Trinoma in Quezon City.

SM Mega (may Bldg A-D, may Atrium pa)

Glorietta (may 1-5), lakad ka kaunti nasa SM ka na. Pagbaling mo sa kabila, Greenbelt ka na. Hahahaha

Sorry, it's still Trinoma for me. The mall center is the galactic core, while the surrounding pathways going outward from the center are like intertwining arms of a spiral galaxy. The mall parking however is a diff matter. Supernova sa kalat. lol.

Another netizen cited the gigantic SM Mall of Asia or Robinsons Manila as the labyrinth king in the country.

Some offered an explanation why mall owners want to confuse shoppers like lab rats.

“This is true. Tipong kung impulse buyer ka, may dala ka ng paper bag from a store kahit babanyo ka lang naman dapat (dahil madadaanan mo muna lahat ng stall bago mo pa makita ang CR),” *peachwrites said.

not to seem like a fake expert but you'll notice that most malls and department stores are designed to be just a bit overwhelming. this is called the gruen transfer and its effect is to confuse people navigating the space to make them susceptible to impulse purchases.

Same sentiments! Sa Archi, escalators are a big part of marketing. That's why yung layout eh para kang umiikot para makapunta ng another floor, it is meant to circle u around, especially sm malls.
