In my experience, speed limits are there for recommendation and implementation.

    OT:
Sa mga freeway sa ibang bansa,- if there are no patrol cars in sight nor traffic monitoring airplanes hovering,- lahat ng mga sasakyan tumatakbo ng above the prescribed speed limit.

Parang cat and mouse game....

IMO, dapat na i-amend ang speed limit dito.....katulad ng ginawa ng ibang bansa sa kanilang mga hiways...

*CVT: ah yes that's very common. Once I was driving then I noticed all cars slowed down. Ako naman tuloy tuloy lang, then I saw the silhouette of the Crown Victoria up front but near one of the exits (farthest lane). Slowed down without braking para hindi kita brake lights ko (gotta love diesel compression)

Pero personally more than once na ako nilampasan lang ng squad car, they just flew past me on my left while I just cruised along around 70-75mph. Sometimes they even ride along. It's better to go with the flow rather than mess up the flow of traffic by announcing your presence and making people up front brake. What will happen is a cascade of braking cars will ensue and chances are some aren't as attentive as others so accidents can happen because of that.

The Jazz has a sweet spot around 60-80kph. Any faster and it gets too noisy, any slower and it's dragging. The engine speed at that vehicle speed is just right too, right around 2000rpm if memory serves.

+1 on the 120 km/h highway max speed limit. My dad explained to me once that this is actually the real limit on NLEX for people who want to overtake slower cars (who are following the 100 km/h published limit). So if you hit 120 km/h on short bursts you supposedly shouldn't be pulled over by cops.

Whenever SLEX isn't clogged up, a 100 km/h cruising speed is just fine in my opinion. Traveling at 80 on an empty highway feels a little strange, as if you're being chained or something.

It's best to just go with the flow of traffic

Ngayon ko lang nalaman ito a, e minsan sa Roxas Boulevard o Macapagal blvd 120km/h ang takbo ko e...
LTO: EDSA speed limit is 40 km/h for cars

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has belied Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando's claim that there is no speed limit along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA).
According to Republic Act 4136 or the Traffic Code, the maximum speed for streets and boulevards, including EDSA, should only be 40 kilometers per hour for cars and motorcycles, and 30 kilometers per hour for trucks and buses.
Assistant Secretary Alberto Suansing of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said there is a speed limit along Edsa, but it is not being implemented.
"Meron naman talaga, nakakalimutan lang iimplement," he said, noting that there are no speed limit signs along Metro Manila's busiest thoroughfare.
On Friday, during a hearing in Congress on the MMDA budget, Fernando, a declared 2010 presidential aspirant, justified his use of motorcycle escorts on the ground that there is no speed limit along EDSA.
His use of escorts violates a rule which says only the president, vice president, Senate president, House Speaker, and the Philippine National Police chief are entitled to have motorcycle escorts.
Fernando also said he uses escorts to help him implement MMDA regulations.
The Traffic Code says that the speed limit along country roads is 80 kilometers for cars and motorcycles, and 50 kilomters for trucks and buses.
For city and municipal roads, the speed limit is 30 kilometers per hour for cars and motorcycles, and 30 kilometers for trucks and buses.
In busy places such as public markets, the speed limit is 30 kilometers for cars and motorcycles, and 20 kilometers for trucks and buses.
    RA 4136 or TRAFFIC CODE

    Kind of road car/motorcycle truck/bus
    - COUNTRY ROAD 80 km/h 50 km/h
    - STREET/BLVD 40 km/h 30 km/h
    - CITY/MUNICIPAL
    (with traffic light) 30 km/h 30 km/h
    - POPULATED ROAD 30 km/h 20km/h

The speed limit is actually almost useless on weekdays when traffic along Metro Manila's busiest thoroughfare is bad. It's only on weekends when the rule could be implemented.
But a taxi driver says it's more dangerous to go slow along EDSA since so many cars violate the speed limit. Implementation of the speed limit will also mean smaller earnings for taxi drivers.
The LTO, however, says it will step up the campaign against speeding. The fine for speeding is P500, plus a disciplinary seminar before the confiscated license can be returned.-- report from JOEY VILLARAMA, ABS-CBN News
