August 1st, 2004 03:04 AM #1Does anyone heard of a car with immobilizer got stolen?
Does immobilizer really work to prevent car theft?
Most new cars have one like mine and I'm thinking whether I
still need to buy extra security lock etc.
ng kotse na nagta-transmit coded signal to the engine's
computer to signal it that it's a valid key & is allowed to start
the engine. Kaya maski na i-duplicate mo mechanically yung key,
hindi pa rin magi-start yung engine unless it can transmit the
expected code.)

If the person hard-wires your ignition, does the immobilizer still work?

August 2nd, 2004 02:48 PM #6From what I heard, immobilizer equipped ECU's software disables the fuel command (internally in the ECU) to fuel-injector and not the main ignition line.
Just not sure if an immobilizer will do something more drastic (e.g. disables the ECU for longer time) if it receives multiple invalid codes from invalid keys.
