Googled it just now sir; my understanding is that the "harm" it does is the stigma/discrimination against those that are quarantined.

i grant you, they may not deserve to be discriminated against, and need moral support...but, i know it sounds harsh, but it would be a mistake for the government not to impose quarantine, choosing compassion(or is it political pogi points?) over a potential pandemic.

It is brutally simple: quarantine a few people for 21 days, or don't quarantine them and risk killing thousands. Would you rather risk psychological damage to 21 people, or millions? Mind you, they're not in a penal colony, they're not kept in isolation from each other, so while they may long for their families, i don't think they'll go insane from the quarantine.

No matter how you slice it, from a logical POV, the visit was a bonehead move. They could have just picked up a phone or installed an internet connection so they can contact their families and friends.

BTW isa ata sa dahilan ng pagkalat ng ebola sa mga affected countries sa Africa ay sa mga beliefs nung mga tao dun at ayaw makinig sa mga health care officials nila

...you mean like not going through quarantine? ^_^

Seriously though, the way i understand it, the reason why Ebola has spread so rapidly in the past is because hospitals don't, or rather can't, follow basic hygiene -- e.g. washing their hands thoroughly, sterilizing medical equipment, etc. In extreme cases, they even reuse bandages and other supplies.

Then of course, there are those idiots who raid Ebola shelters trying to kill those that are infected...in the end, those patients ran like hell out of the place , potentially spreading Ebola to other locations :nonono

" Strategies to limit the potential for EVD transmission from returning healthcare and humanitarian aid workers as well as from other travelers should be based on the best available medical, scientific and epidemiological evidence; be proportional to the risk; balance the rights of individuals and the community; minimize unintended negative consequences; and minimize unnecessary use of limited resources. For these reasons:
IDSA does not support mandatory involuntary quarantine of asymptomatic healthcare workers returning from Ebola-affected areas. This approach carries unintended negative consequences without significant additional benefits "

That is from the Infectious Disease Society of America. It does seems to go against logic but the WHO has probably the same stand. Keywords from that statement for me are " best available medical, scientific and epidemiological evidence"

Analogy nyan sa sasakyan siguro ay tinanung ang isang walang alam sa sasakyan kung anu mas safe sa dalawa: 1950's na kotse with heavier/thicker panels vs a modern day car with lighter/thinner panels. Logic will tell him na malamang yung mas mabigat, but we all know the lighter car with crumple zones is safer

Medicine today is "Evidence Based", what might be true today may not be true tomorrow so the above statement might change. That is also true na kahit na ang pinakasikat na medical specialist sa buong mundo ay may sinasabi na salungat sa current evidences eh bali wala ang expert opinion niya against a Level 4 much more a Level 1 medical evidence.

Again I don't condone their actions and I agree na dapat di sila pumunta dun, sakin lng tirahin natin sila sa pag gragrandstanding but for me lusot yung "core" reason ni Garin kung bakit sya pumunta dun na wala protection/suits (dahil kung may suot naman sila, eh wala tayo pinaguusapan kundi siguro kung may ebola o wala ba sa pinas)

BTW, I am refering to some of the mourning / burial paractices regarding dun sa Africa

Hmmm... apparently there are economical ways of fighting against Ebola.

According to this research, genistein (which is abundant in legumes and soybeans, in particular) inhibits Ebola virus.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?
