With much said and done, after you painstakingly work abroad years after years, when can you say, "I already have enough and ready to settle back in the Philippines?"

Of course if you are planning to spend your old days in the Philippines and not offshore...

2, 6 , 10, 35 million pesos? When can we say "I have this money and ready to go back to the Philippines?"

We are discussing kasi with my family on when is the time we can go back to the Phils. I have a target na when I reach 40 or so, I will stop working offshore and spend my "oldie" years sa Phils.

I guess the true question is how much do I need to settle down for good. Also raising 2 small kids and living comfortably and can buy any reasonable things I want.

There's nothing more satisfying than to live in your native land IMO...

Of course daming bad things sa Pinas, pero I know it's the thing for me.

    Hi Kuroy!

I used to work abroad for 7 years until I decided to return to the Philippines for good way back 1998.

First, since you're planning to return by the age of 40, I presume that you will not look for employment here in Pinas once you return.

If that is the case, I suggest that you start thinking about investments or business, if you still don't have one. Before I decided to settle here for good, me and my wife made sure that we have some investments na pwede naming pagkakitaan in case I will have a hard time finding employment here.

As for how much do you need to settle here in Pinas for good, I guess it will all depend on the lifestyle you want.

Ganyan din ako noon nagtratrabaho pa ako abroad, gusto ko na mag-quit for good, but the dollar is so enticing. I decided to quit though

    HTH

1st, make sure that you already have something for you old age. like a pension fund with the reputable insurance companies. insular life, sun life, etc. at least pag tanda mo may pera ka kahit konti lang.

2nd, make sure that you know what you are going to do after coming home to the philippines. may business ka na bang papasukan? have you studied completely and thoroughly the ins and outs of the business? do you have a back-up plan if in case it does not succeed? can you fit your lifestyle with the earnings from that business?

3rd, are your children's future educational needs taken cared of already? forget about the educ plans, they help but surely as history of those plans go, they could not keep up with rising tuition fees. think more of a trust fund managed by yourself.

If you have the chance to do business while you're still young, then I would advise you to go for it.

Ako at least P30M bago ako uuwi and titira sa Pilipinas. Don't get me wrong, I do love going back to the Philippines. But I don't see myself staying there for good. And definitely, I will not take back my kids for good to grow up there sa Pilipinas. Again, don't get me wrong, pero, most people naman siguro would rather have their kids grow up dito sa states or other countries dahil they offer better fututre for the kids [education/career wise].

Realistic target savings for 15 yrs 28/28 days offshore work here in the Middle East, is I would say around P10M (in Cash).Ibig sabihin savings ito na nakakalat na sa iba't ibang banko...di kasama dito yung bahay mo at mga oto mo,etc...remember, we're not paying any income tax...again,depende rin nga pala sa trabaho...

:hihihi: okay, enjoy your bakasyon kapatid!

I'll leave the decision to my kids if they want to stay in the US or not. But there's a big probability thay they will choose to stay in the US, of course. siempre, bisi-bisita na lang.

how much is too much depends on your lifestyle.

    yebo...enjoy ur vacation...

Back to the topic...I had a similar dilema nuon....I had a 2 year stint sa Singapore....while I was there, I never thought that kaya ko kitahin ang kininikita ko duon if I were to go back....however, I don't intend to grow old over there either....

So my strategy was to know when was the right time to go back? My answer was, if I plan to re-employ myself to another pinoy company then I have to go back around 28-30. Kasi mahirap na mag-hanap ng job sa beyond 30 years old....you are too old na for a young position....and unless you are that good and could qualify for a top brass position then you could not be hired either easily.

Now in your case, should you go back say at around 40... then better be sure you have already have a good income source dito even before you go back.....else sandali mo lang mauubos ang ipon mo.

How much ipon, perhaps consider a budget of 1 million pesos per year that you intend to live (or you life expectancy)...say 60...then you'll need at least 20M. Now kung gusto mo ng luho then you'll have to at least double that amount.

Pero alam ninyo kung ako sa inyo, I'll observe around your area kung meron kayong manenegosyo from there...kasi kung pautos-utos or papindot pindot lang naman work ninyo dyan palagay ko kung meron kayong manenegosyo na iba while at work e mas di ninyo maiisip yan.

Examples of opportunities that I missed out when I was abroad:

1- stock market investment (ngayon pa't may internet, its easy to research any biz) and a broker is just a phone call away.
2- commodity market (agriculture related kasi ako so me bearing ito sa akin), its like stock market but the goods being traded are corn, soya beans, vegetable oils, etc....things in the food and feed business.
3- physical trading....ang dami dun na OCW na buys pinoy products like chippy, bagoong, whatever...at madali din ito ipa ship out from pinas to anywhere.
4- manpower/labor trading - you just look for employers there abroad and supply them the people from philippines (medyo complicated lang ito but it could be stable)....I know somebody who earns US$100 per person sent over...but its its worth P5M a year net earnings for him (malaki na kasi ang contracts nila).

Im sure meron pang iba....JUST OPEN YOUR EYES AND MIND for these opportunities.

Hindi ko pa naisasasuggest sa inyo ang "farming" opportunities here in Philippines ha!

mas maganda kung makakapagtayo ng business, IMHO. kc once stable na, kahit ostenta ka na e me income ka pa, at kung sakali e pwede mo pang ipahandle sa mga kids mo -- in effect, you're securing ung future nila, and your apos' B).

darn good stuff mga kapatid....thank you sa mga inputs ninyo...

now it helps in my formula on how much will be my target savings.

actually...dati my bisnis ako sa pinas that I ran for about 4 yrs...computer center(1994)... and then may kaunti kaming bigasan sa family...so high school pa ako medyo bisnis minded talaga ako.

sa mga anak ko ewan ko kung sasama sa pinas pag settle down. i think it would be their call though...that time peak pa ng schooling nila.

How much do you think is enough?
