Heard from the news that if there is a severe winter this year, world oil prices will go up. A mild winter can mean either a stable oil price or we can even see prices go down as demand is down.
Realistic natural global warming scenarios have projected milder winters and wider warmer regions. Historical past global warming trends have resulted in improvements in the economic prosperity.
Conspiracy mode on... So does that mean the oil cartel is working hand-in-hand with the "green movement" groups prevent another global warming trend because it would result in lower global demand for their product? If the green-movement can be "successful" it would mean cooler summers and harsher winters leading to increased oil demand for heating and power. This increased demand would result in driving the price of oil higher and higher.
Wow! ... this global threat of the oil price conspiracy is really devious!

In what way does "global warming" have to do with the stuff above?
1) the use of non-biodegradable plastics
Recycling is a better option because you don't have to produce as much more raw material YET even that solution is flawed because even the act of recycling often doesn't pay for itself, it much be financed by the government to keep it going. And in some cases, it produces more CO2 than simply burying it in a landfill.
Just remember that green solutions & materials are often costs more to use. In the end, we pay for it in more expensive products and services.
2) unlawfull cutting of trees
And why just stop at the unlawful cutting of trees?... Why not simply call for the total stop in the cutting of natural growth trees and forests. Shouldn't that be much much better and even more "green"?
3)smoke belchers
Current "global warming" is heavily based on CO2 production. Unfortunately humans are only responsible for a fraction of the global greenhouse gas production. Other major greenhouse gas producers are: cows, volcanoes, natural forest & grass fires, decomposition of organic matter, and even the ocean itself.
are you in for all these stuff na alam naman natin nakakasira rin ng tao (in the long run)...
personally hindi ako papayag... I would rather embrace the "global warming scare" HOPING to make things better in the future.
Why not let those first world countries lead in adapting on a wide scale green & renewable technologies? Stop forcing developing nations to use green technology if it doesn't fit their requirements.
Example: a village clinic had a solar power system installed to light up the clinic and power a fridge to keep it's medicines from spoiling. Yet the problem is the system is not enough to keep both the lights and fridge going, either just the lights or the fridge. The clinic ends up using the lights and letting the fridge go used.Last edited by ghosthunter; October 21st, 2008 at 06:23 PM.

Good point. It never occurred to me that environmental concerns could be used as a tool for oppression. It's just so easy to target the smog-covered cities of developing countries.
But I still believe that humanity, on the whole, should still cut down on pollution for health, sanitary, and environmental concerns.

October 21st, 2008 08:56 PM #24Warming and Cooling cycles are natural... what we're ooncerned with is whether the contribution of human activity is enough to tilt that cycle in a direction that's disadvantageous to us.
There's a certain elasticity and resilience to the biosphere... one which allows it to recover after extremely hot or cold spells. But human activity has reduced the variety of Earth's biota... including a huge portion of it which acts to regulate planetary climate.
The question is... will the combination of the reduced ability of the biosphere to influence global temperature, along with man's increased ability along the same lines, lead to a situation from which recovery becomes problematic?

Well, the so called "green movement" or Greenpeace or other UN resolutions on climate change, etc. seems to be encroaching on the sovereignty of every country particularly developing and poor countries, by giving sanctions e.g. as condition in multilateral loans, grants or aid. These 'movements' are financed by blood money and to keep their lifeline going, they have to arrive at "issues" against humanity...
Conspiracy mode OFF...Peace!

I really appreciate the exchanges of ideas here 'coz it's very informative and entertaining.
There are advocates saying that if global warming is prevented as in controlling CO2 emissions, we are in effect, accelerating the earth's cycle in moving to another ice-age, in my own layman's perception. We are currently in the peak of the about 100,000 years warm cycle. Bombarding the atmosphere with CO2 is healthy (daw) to maintain the warmth compaired to a chilling icy environment (green house vs ice house).
Hoping the ff. link is credible enough:

Help keep oil prices low! Oil prices go up when there is a major demand for heating fuel in the northern countries experiencing severe cold winters. Contribute your share of greenhouse gasses to help maintain mild winter temperatures. hehehe!

Choice I would have made as well.
