DPWH's Singson on Photoshop fiasco: Embarrassing

MANILA, Philippines - Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson is humiliated with the fiasco caused by the altered photo showing three of the department’s officials in a post-Pedring devastation along Roxas Boulevard.

On the sidelines of the National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council meeting on Sunday, Singson said, “it’s very embarrassing to the DPWH. We’re all trying to imbue honesty and integrity and here comes a fake picture.”

He is referring to a Photoshopped picture showing 3 officials in a picture where they did not belong. The issue even came out in the Washington Post.

Singson said it is the fault of the photographer, who will be sanctioned for “high dishonesty.”

He did not name the photographer, saying only, “I don’t even want to remember.”

He said the three officials had nothing to do with it.

“The officials had nothing to do with the fake photos, they were there with the intention of assessing what needed to be done. They did not know. In fact, the undersecretary who was there officially wrote the photographer to explain why it was done,” Singson said.

In its Twitter account, the department said: "We would like to apologize to Undersecretary Romeo Momo, Director Rey Tagudando and District Engineer Mikunug Macud for whatever inconvenience that may have caused them regarding the photo earlier posted. Rest assured that we shall exert more diligence and prudence in the execution of our mandate to inform the public of our plans, programs, projects and official activities."

Singson said an investigation is not needed anymore.

“The guy, the photographer himself, came to me and said the three had nothing to with it. An investigation is not needed anymore,” he said.

(Image via Facebook) Typhoon Nesat struck the Philippines on Tuesday, killing 31 people, displacing 60,000 families, and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The disaster’s cost is estimated at nearly $23 million.

In the cleanup photo, the three officials appeared to be assessing the damage of the typhoon, but one discerning blogger and civil engineer noticed that something didn’t seem quite right.

A careful look at the photo shows that the officials seem to be floating in mid-air, and that their images were likely dragged into the scene using Photoshop’s lasso tool.

If the inspection report is erroneous, this might lead to a wrong and/or costly design... and worse, not prepare others from potential safety risks of the site.”

Tama PR yung may sala diyan, hehe, pero comic relief nalang to, tama na yung ala Cris Lao ang abutin nila. Para ma feel din ng ahensiya na they are being watched kaya dapat mag ingat sila sa mga moves nila.
