MANILA, Philippines -- Typhoon "Egay" (international code name: Sepat) has gained more strength as it continued to move westward in the direction of Northern Luzon, according to the weather bureau.

At 2 a.m. Wednesday, Egay was located at 650 kms east of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph, and forecast to move west at 15 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its website.

Although Egay is yet to make landfall, it is expected to draw in the southwest monsoon (habagat) and bring rains over western Luzon and the Visayas, PAGASA said.
