    Boundary nalang kaya?

I doubt you could consider most jeepney drivers as illegal... they hardly make enough money to be taxed.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

niky: that's no excuse, jeepney drivers make more than you average janitor or messenger, but they get taxed, sss, etc... do the math, if each jeepney can carry 20 passengers per trip, each passenger pays 5.50 per trip, that's P110/trip, each jeepney (like those in high traffic urban areas) usually does 10 trips a day balikan that's P1110/day or P26,640 if they drive 6 days a week! Magkano lang cost nila sa diesel? They don't follow the 5000km change oil stuff either...

How much do most janitors get paid? 5K/month!? They pay tax and they pay those doggone PUV drivers as well.

Tricycles are absurd as well, P5-20 bucks for short trips!!!

The closest thing I remember to a double decker bus are the open-air Matorco ones plying the Roxas Blvd. route.

OT: Totoo ngang mahina na ang kita ng mga jeepney drivers, in part because there are now so many of them. They'll end up asking for even more fare increases, at ang mga pasahero ang laging kawawa.

If I were the LTFRB chair, I'd impose a moratorium or ceiling on the membership of jeepney transport groups. Siguro kung every year sila tumatanggap ng members, dapat gawing every other year or every two years na lang, para hindi saturated ang mga daan. Mabibigyan pa yung mga current members ng chance para mag-thrive, before giving way to the new ones. This will also force the groups to adopt more stringent standards in selecting members, para hindi mga kung sinu-sino na lang ang nagmamaneho ng jeepney.

On double deckers, yeah we had them in the 80's running on EDSA together with the Love Buses.

Aliw nga sumakay before.... although hassle mag egress pag puno ng pasahero hehe.

problem is... HOW will you tax jeepney drivers and operatiors? Make them issue receipts? :p

I've got an idea... have a toll box (a la American buses) wherein people put their pay... the driver/conductor is there just to change bills for coins.... good racket kaya? We'll make these boxes for them!

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

theveed, yung 1100/day that you calculated, that's gross. i believe the boundary is now between 700 and 1000 per day. sa'yo pa ang cost of fuel. so actually the jeepney drivers live a really marginal existence..

the most viable replacement for the jeepney is the multicab/minicab ng Norkis... matipid sa fuel, less pollution, compact pero kaya isakay ang kasing dami sa jeep, PINOY MADE, mura pa... pwede pa ipa-aircon... dito sa cavite dumadami na sila... sa south yata tinatalo na nila ang mga tricycles...

    Norkis Multicab website

Flat tax is one solution. The other solution is to tax the boundary fee instead. Boundary sa Manila is P900. I don't know how much they make pero yung kakilala kong jeep driver, ok yung buhay niya. Yung pedicab driver na kakilala ko, sabi niya ang pinakamababang kita niya sa 1 day is P500. Walang boundary, walang gas expense.

Tatlo o minsan apat na jeep magkakalapit, competing for the same passengers. Imagine mo imbis na 3 jeep, you only see 1 double-decker bus. Imagine mo, instead of black smoke belching in the air, it's natural gas. Unload/load only at bus stops. 1 bus for every 15 minutes. Less jeeps on the road means luluwag ang daan. More efficient ang public transportation. Less traffic.
