What exactly is the problem?
2nd gear on our MB100 has always been a bit notchy and difficult to engage especially if you are used to a car. I've gotten used to it in 10 or so years of driving.

I'm not sure if this would help but a revised shifter was made available for the MB100 during its later years. You will know the revised shifter because it is the one without the quick release shift knob (the shiftknob is already threaded like most conventional knobs, you twist it counterclockwise numerous times to remove).
