you a bimmer when you are on your way to the top... you buy a mercedes when you are on the top...
i guess maskonti na lang yun nasa top... hehehehe
bmw is more versatile kasi, their branding was so good...
1 series for the up and coming...
3 series for the young power brokers
5 series for the top executives
6 series for the gentleman
7 series for the 'made people'
X3 weekend car for the outdoor lovers
X5 weekend for the high-profile families
Z4 weekend for the freespirit
and people could differentiate each series... unlike mercedes...
C CLASS for the up and coming... (actually too expensive for them)
E CLASS for the young power brokers (too expensive for them too)
CLS CLASS for the top executives
SL CLASS for the gentleman
S CLASS for the 'made people'
M CLASS weekend car for the outdoor lovers (too rugged)
SLK weekend car for the freespirit
although they try to differentiate... ordinary people could not differentiate the different class and looks... for some all mercedes looks the same...

Mercs has always been more expensive among its class...but does that matter some 10 or even 20 years ago? i guess not... because at those time Mercedes though charging a premium for their car, has durability, reliability, style and of course, the status symbol to justify such stratospheric price...
but now, the competition has advanced, Lexus, Infiniti, Jaguar, BMW and sometimes even Acura can offer things/gadgetry/features that Merc can give their clients (sometimes even greater than MB can) at a much lower price and still can accompany those things with reliability and durability. Mercedes Benz simply deteriorated in the past years, their cars gets more complicated than "Advanced"... as they add more features the more it gets less and less reliable.
so probably now, people are seeing that there's really no point for paying a premium for Mercs.
