They cheated and schemed their way through those jobs and I'm not one to praise them and romanticize that. Same as doing poorly just because it pays little. Still a disservice to the real oppressed working class imo.
These are my thoughts and I'm not here to win this argument besides the movie has already won. Let's just agree to disagree.

The scheming part, I agree. Shameful right?
But when people in power do it (i.e. scheme their way into coveted positions), it's taken as normal and an inevitable outcome of our system. In politics, pag kaibigan or kamaganak ni ganito, automatic magiging supplier for a government contract.
Also I realized that the reason why they rushed the boxes was because they wanted to get the most boxes done in the shortest amount of time. If they were able to do 50 boxes with 1/4 of them subpar, that would still be a higher output than making 25 boxes meticulously. Similar to the concept of overbooking by airlines - they can be very exact witb their bookings but not necessarily be at their most profitable, or they can just overbook and pay those who will be bumped off (which is still the more profitable option).
Hope you don't take the discussion as an affront - thanks for the productive discourse on the themes of systemic ills that the movie puts to light. Great to talk to someone who's able to articulate her dissenting opinion without succumbing to name-calling or anti-intellectualism which is the norm on the internet these days.

gets ko ung point ni LM na the kims are not a good example of poor people kasi lumalabas na schemers ang mga mahirap eh madami naman mahirap honest and hardworking
pero totally gets ko ung point ni juts
if LM only knew what rich and powerful people do IRL to maintain/increase their wealth/status it will make the fictional Kims look like saints
the rich and powerful are far more ruthless than the Kims
Ung nakikita ni juts sa movie may not actually appear in the movie kaya di nagets ni LM where juts is coming from
but i know where juts is coming from coz gets ko ang world view niya
Juts goes all over the country meeting all kinds of people rich and poor nakikita niya ang socioeconomic heirarchy it's the same everywhere he goes
when you keep seeing the same kalakaran everywhere you'll also end up using the phrase "that's the way the world works"
the rich and powerful live in a different world
they may be of different races, based in different geographies, have different sources of income or rackets
but they think alike more or less
they actually have more in common with each other than with poor people in their own cities / countriesLast edited by uls; February 16th, 2020 at 01:12 PM.

This is the 'normal' I'm generally seeing here.[emoji106] That movie, however, says a lot of a different kind.....the current societal NORMAL...& sadly RIGHT & GOOD aren't its constant company anymore.[emoji853]
You two carry on. That breakfast tomorrow, if on, should be fun.[emoji106][emoji4]

For sure there are movies about evil rich people depicting all you said.
But that's not in this movie. Anong maling ginawa ng upper class family sa movie? Mabahuan and talk about it...in private. While the poor were depicted as schemers and parasites.
The movie is profound, but I can't make it more than it is. That's why some people call it heavy handed.
And no it's not because I'm naive to the evils of the rich.

yun na nga
a lot of what jut said isn't in the movie but i understand his observations
like what he said about the Kim daughter whose parents can't afford art school
IRL many poor people with raw talent never have their talent honed / refined coz wala sila pera
while rich kids with mediocre talent or are just wannabes have parents who can pay experts to train their kids and have connections to give their kids exposure / jobs
that movie is different things to different people
