even the avengers before they began were considered amatuers, the x-men up to this very day are still considerd amatuers in their comics.

so we can also conclude that your a nerd, because you also like supernormal beings, just as ouy have said you like the x-men and the avengers, and you even know what's happening at comiccons and i should be very careful in labeling someone a nerd, because everyone here in this very thread your posting on, likes supernormal beings and their show.

But all those characters you mentioned have other powers (heat vision, telekenesis, offensive/defensive armour) or an interesting background.

The guy on the show just flies. Any normal guy with a baseball bat could whoop his ass on the ground.

And that girl with the 'Jekyll and Hyde' persona, is that really a superpower???
She's just a looney with a split personality.

The japanese dude is overpowered for this group. I admit bending the space/time continuum is quite an advance ability.

See, here's where you don't get it.

The original X-Men fanatics tuned in to X-Men not because of their "amazing mutant abilities"... the Incredible Hulk or Thor could wipe the floor with the whole team on a good day... but because of the "human interest" line in the story.

That's why your average "comicon geek" (that non-discerning person who apparently likes anything supernormal... which explains why such turkeys as "The New Universe" were so successful... not) still worships the "classic" X-Men... or "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (intentionally silly name and premise, but the writing is actually good (in a goofy way) once you get into it)... because these are the soap operas of the comic world.

It's not about how powerful they are, or how cool their powers are (though, in the X-Men, they made it a point to think up immensely cool "mutations" ), but how the characters deal with those powers and situations.

Oh, by the way... the writer of "Buffy" also does some work for the "X-Men".

    ------

RE: Powers: Flying man... sure, it's been done before... but what story about superpowers is complete without it? Flying is one of those powers everyone wishes he has, and every story (comic/TV/whatever) featuring someone who's just learned he/she can fly has them soaring around joyously and needlessly for hours on end. What's different here is: Nathan is terribly afraid of his gift, and what it could mean for him if people found out. The two times he uses it, it's only as a very last resort.

Niki/Jessica: In case you didn't notice, she's superhumanly strong (or, as according to Marvel's classification, parahumanly strong... meaning she can't throw cars around) and she's fast. But she can only use those powers in her darker persona.

Other "interesting" powers: Sylar's ability to "understand" other "Heroes'" powers, and to tinker with his own DNA. Peter's ability to copy powers, apparently, permanently... and the downside to his ability (which other superpower mimics in the comic book world don't have). The Haitian's memory erasing abilities... etcetera.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Every TV series has some sort of 'soap opera' flavor and thats what keeps people waiting for the next episode. From Prisonbreak to Lost to Grays Anatomy. But those series are fresh or have their own unique angle. That's where 'Heroes' is left wanting.

If you're going to imitate something, it couldve made it better:

    Cheerleader Girl = Regeneration
Wolverine = Regeneration + Adamantium Skeleton + Claws + Heightened Senses + Samurai background.

But that wouldn't be in keeping with the "realistic" slant of the show. (although a nuclear man is hardly realistic)

Besides, as I pointed out in the beginning... these are superpowered beings who've only just learned of their powers. We're seeing how these powers impact their lives, and the possible ramifications of such.

If you want X-Men level excitement... maybe you should wait for the next season... ...then we'll see more characters, more interaction, and more public awareness of these "Heroes", and possibly a few costumed characters.

yes they all have other powers, but as sir niky pointed out, this just the first season wherein they just started to manifest and who knows what other powers they will discover and remember every superhero had their own humble begginings, one is interesting from the next.

flying man nathan petrelli can just fly today, but if you observed how fast can he go,maybe in time, he will be just like the the flash who can only just run, but at supersonic speeds can also be deadly.

I'm expecting one or two characters (future or current) to be mentally unstable enough to consider trying to be an actual superhero...

It's a possible future story arc...
