After reading the Nexus bugbog thread, I decided to check out one of M. Sarne's columns to see what he was all about. What I read was a paean to a certain manufacturer (let's call it "I") because "I" knew how to treat automotive journalists right: with buffets and junkets and all those other good stuff. Haha! Aren't we a shameless lot?

There was nothing there about the excellence (or lack thereof) of "I"'s products. Just the excellence of "I"'s PR machine. (Btw, am a firm believer in "I"'s good quality products)

With regard to his answer to M. Supreme Being. It is the masterful work of an expert propagandist... observe:

1.) Initially, treat your subject with seeming goodwill (and a healthy dose of condescension... the better to make you look better).

2.) Extol the virtues of your cause.

3.) Make baseless, disparaging, but seemingly true remarks against your subject. ( eg.: about nameless cyberdenizens.... haha! Does M. Sarne not know that, as the EIC, he is very much within the public domain?... Meanwhile M. Supreme Being is not, and thus, M. SB doesn't have the obligation to fall into this sort of trap.).

4.) Do not answer a single issue raised against your cause. (eg.: many of the same people are still around... C'mon, what kind of reasoning is that? Does this mean there is no exercise of leadership? Haha! Shades of Pilate... Also, why not answer the very simple issue of lack of technical details?)

5.) Drown out reason with sound and fury.

Am I right or am I right?
