Solar says Pacquiao still has 2 years in contract
    abs-cbnNEWS.com | 03/16/2009 5:57 PM

Contrary to a newspaper report, a top official of Solar Entertainment Corporation on Monday said Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao is not severing his ties with the company since his contract will not expire until 2011.

In a press statement, Solar COO Peter ChanLiong denied a Philippine Daily Inquirer report that said the prized pugilist is mulling a transfer to a giant TV network due to perceived problems with the troubled sports channel.

“In response to [PDI reporter] Musong Castillo’s article concerning the television coverage of the upcoming Pacman vs Hatton Fight in the Philippine Daily Inquirer dated March 16, 2009, Solar reiterates that the company has over two years remaining on a four-year license agreement with Manny Pacquiao and MP Promotions expiring on May 6, 2011 which remains in full force and effect," ChanLiong's statement read.

"It is Solar’s decision as to which television network it wishes to air Pacman’s fights. As customary courtesy, Solar advices Pacman on the television network to be used as the host broadcaster, however Solar has the final decision per our legal prerogative as the rights holder.”

The Inquirer report, quoting unimpeachable sources, said Pacquiao's camp is very close to striking a new deal with a giant network after doubts surfaced over Solar Sports' ability to mount an expensive coverage.

It noted that Solar Sports postponed a fight card featuring Pinoy boxers Nonito Donaire and Brian Viloria because sponsors could only commit a bigger budget in the second quarter of the year.

Pacquiao's recent fights were beamed locally by Solar Sports through GMA-7. The Inquirer report said ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., which carried most of Pacquiao's fights in the early part of his career, is one of the leading contenders to land the broadcast contract.

pacman is very strong...very, very strong physically! but his mind is weak! and abs has the attitude of pirating bigtime talents from the opposing network by alluring big sum of money! abs-cbn doesn't know how to build up talents...they are just good in pirating!

Talagang pag pera pera lang ang pinag-uusapan, lahat ay hahamakin. Kanya kanyang diskarte lang yan. Sad but true.

Lahat naman may katapusan at lahat ay may KARMA. Ang tanong nga lang ay kung "Good or Bad KARMA". Ano kaya dito sa dalawa ang mangyayari kay PACMAN.

Sabi nga nung isang sports analyst na kaya daw rin nagawang lumipat ni PACMAN kase he knows he is a HERO, so he can do whatever he wants.

If it's true, then Solar will have made an empty threat since they won't be able to afford to engage Pacquiao or anyone else in lengthy litigation; malamang daanin na lang sa settlement.

IMO, it's not about the money really, I mean it's a part but minimal lang, marami na siyang pera, he can't spend it all kahit 3 lifetime niya, it's what ABS CBN promise Pacman,

full TV exposure for his campaign next year...eh yun naman na ang pinaghahandaan ni Pacman eh yun pagpasok niya sa politics....ayaw na niyang matalo this time...and hinde nga naman kayang ibigay ng Solar yan...

or another theory of mine is, hinde pa natuturo sa schooling niya sa Notre Dame yun difference ng contract signing and autograph signing...this coming school year pa yun subject na yan..kaya nalilito pa si PAcman kasi parehong meron signing sa huli..

Apparently ABS-CBN has offered Pacquiao P120M for his Hatton match and his next fights and full media support in the next election to ensure victory in the next year’s congressional elections, while Solar pala is around P60M lang ang contract nila. Ginawa pang hulugan ang bayad kay Manny.

Isa pa, gusto ata ni Manny, siya gumanap na Zorro sa GMA-7, kaso binigay kay Richard G..........
