    Just out....************

"Faulty valve springs are starting to affect more than one Japanese automaker. After Subaru issued a recall spanning 400,000 units globally, Mazda just announced that they’re doing the same for 640,000 vehicles globally.

Reuters reports that the Hiroshima-based automaker will recall 230,000 vehicles in its home market of Japan and another 410,000 units in overseas markets. The defective valve spring issue affects the Skyactiv-D diesel engine only.

Like the problem found in the case of Subaru, if the valve spring is found defective, it’s possible that under stress, the valve springs in the affected engines may fracture. This could result in an unusual noise coming from the engine, the engine stalling and not being to restart.

We have reached out to Bermaz Auto Philippines, the official distributor of Mazda vehicles in the Philippines to find out if any of the CX-5 and Mazda6 sold locally are affected by the said recall. Steven Tan, President and CEO responded with this statement:

“We are gathering more information today. So far, in our national query today [to Mazda Corporation], there has been no similar reported incident. [Mazda] Japan has not included Philippines in this recall. When we have more specific info, we will notify the customers, as we always had. The safety of all our Mazda clients remains our ultimate priority.”"
