its actually rated 178PS (175bhp) for the Japan DOmestic market spec, it's slightly more powerful than the US spec *160bhp but the US one can run on regular unleaded fuel. JDM spec requires the use of high-octane gas. and some different cams and JDM version has slightly higher compression ratio.

mazda agent called me a while ago... theyr having press launch for the 2.3L tom. units should be in the dealerships by thurs. 1.3-1.4m daw....finally they relase this thing

Wow! Finally!

I'm really a Mazda fan at heart. I used to have the mid-90s 626, and although underpowered, it was torquey. Perfect for city drives. It was a shame Mazda left the Philippines and us Mazda owners orphans. Replaced the 626 with a Camry in 2002. Had Mazda been back with a 6 that would've rivalled the Toyota and Honda offerings, things would've been different. It's great that they're putting some marketing muscle in the 6. They really should spruce it up so that it's better equipped if not as equipped as the top of the line 3.
