July 19th, 2008 08:00 AM #134hi there, a newbie to this forum
I'm wondering if I'm posting in the right thread as I have so many questions
Recently I just acquired a "1999" (2.5 model as you guys put it) Mazda 323 GLXi that has the "Gull" emblem
When I test drove it I really enjoyed it, and at the offering price of 180k I already thought it was a splendid deal...
But now going through various threads here and even browsing through some at PTP I wonder if I got a good buy...
Well, it had 121k on the odometer, it didn't have the 10cd changer as mentioned here, and the rims were actually not the stock mazda rims (some other manufacturer)
Now onto the more technical questions, are the 323's actually 1.6dohc? because as I was doing research on the internet it says the exhaust volume is only 1500, also the one listed on the registration is 1500...
Fuel consumption... wth... I know this sounds really sad, but I seem to only get 4-6 kilometers per liter
For your info, it's got headers, muffler, racing filter and intake
But is that enough to make my consumption go waaay above the roof? with gas prices getting higher weekly, I even resist driving it now ._.
I used to drive a lancer gli 1994 "itlog" 1.5liter efi
and I'd get 7-8per liter kaskasero mode pa... kinda miss it na tuloy
Big difference on these two cars I drove... I really felt the power on the 323, I bury my foot in the pedal and my cds flew from the compartment underneath the head unit... alas if it costs too much naman it kinda makes one feel depressed driving...
question on driving style, they says it's best to keep RPM as low as possible is this true? now I shift at 1.5-2k rpm on the mazda... on my lancer before I'd shift at 2.5-3k rpm
could it be that at lower revs the fuel is not completely burnt?
aaaaaaaa I'm kinda sad
could there be something wrong with the engine?
already had tune-up and oil change

from what i remember, the exact CC volume of the b6 dohc engine is 1593cc.round it up and it goes to 1600. yes. it is a 1.6l.
swap the filter, headers and muffler to stock. it might be the cause of the poor gas consumption. but, have it checked first at the recommended shops of mazdatech owners. back when i had my mazda, i had a knn filter, hotbits headers and mazdaspeed muffler on mine. i did a reasonable 7-8km/l considering my car was an automatic (which usually yields worse fuel consumption than a manual). remember, traffic condition also plays a major role on FC.
my driving style was, to describe it, "spirited". i loved mid-high rpm driving of my mazda.
have the hi tension wires, plugs, and timing checked.
a favorite of mazdatech guys is kia pasay since the service head there owns mazdas (gen1 323, gen2.5 familia and miata)
another shop favored by mazdatech is blacksheep autoworks along felix ave in cainta
