June 27th, 2009 05:10 PM #211Hindi naman DIESEL yung Mazda speed. The 2.3 Turbo DISI engine is petrol powered not diesel. And this is not to be compared with the 2.0 tdci engine in the focus. They are very different.
Even if Mazda develops their cars for handling and performance, it's still possible for them to make it more fuel efficient.
And yes, the Mazda 3's steering feels heavier but gives the driver a more direct feel.

well ang mazda kase kung dimo problem ang gas, it is really fun to drive..

It's not the turbo ... it's the UNICHIP tuning, especially the off-boost portion.
For non-turbo cars, you can still get the UNICHIP upgrade and the tuning can adjust the fuel consumption. So with conservative driving, you can achieve better FC figures than the stock Mazda3 unit.

June 27th, 2009 09:50 PM #216Maybe Jeremy was referring to the Focus TDCi? hehehe
Anyway, regarding the Unichip, it really depends on you whether you are willing to spend for it. It's not cheap, with the price you pay for it you can buy a lot of gas. But it does have it advantage of making the car more responsive(slightly more hp)??

Achieving average 30% improvement in fuel efficiency across their vehicle line-up is one of Mazda's primary mission by 2015.
Possible problem for Mazda is also by 2015, Honda engines may have also leap frog in fuel efficiency improvement. Kaya lamang pa rin mga Honda. Hahaha.

Mods are usually never about ROIs. If that is how you will view things, almost everything can be done to a car is not worth it and would be best to keep stock.
Auto-LPG is one of the exceptions to this.
And since a car depreciates in value, it is almost never an investment when spending on a car. It is something that gives satisfaction when you use it.

Yeah historically Mazda has never been known to be in front lines of the fuel efficiency contest whether in actual or in perception... Honda has always been there, has been promoting it (look at their ads and marketing).
