July 21st, 2009 09:30 PM #2591oh I see, kaw pala ex-owner nung van na kapangalan ni arni (read that somewhere in thread before)
anyway, I have a bit of good and bad news
good news is initial diagnosis by 2 mechanics is yung engine support (passenger side, bale yung nasa right) ang culprit. So off I go to goodgear para dun na gawin. While in the process of removing it, napansin nung mechanic na maluwag yung 2 (of the 4) na turnilyo, yung isa loose thread pa. So it turns out that it was the one causing the "ugong" sound that I hear while inside the van. Nung nahigpitan lahat, ayun damay at pati yung pagloloko ng abs & brake lights icon, even yung erratic movement of the speedo went away. So in other words I was so happy that everything was fixed . . . or so I thought . .
when I was about to go home, the engine wont crank. It turns out drained yung battery, fortunately the drivers in our office was able to lend me a hand in doing a series (matic yung van ko) so it would start. So the moment I got home, I had it checked a my suking battery shop, and after a thorough check-up, lumabas na overcharging yung alternator kaya nasira yung batt. So on top of replacing my battery (which costs 4.5k, outlast brand), I still need to have the alternator fixed (diode, tama ba isfelling?).
ganito ba talaga carnival, sunod-sunod pag nasira? it appears everything (problem that is) comes in bunches? now I can relate why a lot of owners and ex-owners in this thread could only complain and scratch their heads whenever faced with this. . . ano naman kaya sunod after this?

Isa Isahin ko na mga expected major repairs sa carnival. apektado lang nito mostly gen1. nasolve na ng kia ito with the sedona.
1. grinding noise on engine at cold starts - idler bearings, crankshaft bearing, oil pump , etc etc (nagpost pa ko ng pictures nito way down sa thread with price)
2. drained battery after few days of not using the van , blinking ABS, Airbag, parking brake lights , etc etc - IC regulator or the whole alternator assembly
3. Jerking Auto Transmission when upshifting or when engaging into gear - replace AT fluid every 20t kms, change engine supports, rebuild AT tranny, replace AT tranny.
4. TOKTOKTOK sound over potholes - mostly its the "strut" bushing, on some cases, rack ends and tie rod ends
5. Pulsating brake pedal when braking on hi speeds (deformed front rotors) - reface of replace with japanese brand rotors not korean. take care not to get the rotors wet after long drives.
6. Loose power from the engine (J3 diesel engine) - dirty injectors (rare case ), dirty fuel filter, clogged fuel lines, remove "gunk" from the intake manifold, wash down carbon and soot from the exhaust pipes.
yung iba minor na. baka me maisip pa ko dagdag ko na lang :D

Great idea!
I just have one question, naririnig ko na to sa front wheels ko, pero mahina pa-- di nga rinig pag nakaradyo e.
4. TOKTOKTOK sound over potholes - mostly its the "strut" bushing, on some cases, rack ends and tie rod ends
Yung accord ko dati yang rod end yata ang pinalitan, abot ang quotation sa kin ng 10k for both front wheels. Pero pag bushings lang P250 lang yata isa... I can't recall the exact amount though...Last edited by praetor91313; July 27th, 2009 at 02:45 AM. Reason: corrected typos

July 30th, 2009 06:19 PM #2595saan kaya makakabili ng mud guard (front) ng Kia Carnival/Sedona? i'm not sure kung yun nga ang tawag dun... nawala kasi yung "mud guard" nya kaya pag nadadaan sa parteng may tubig nababasa yung aircon belt lagi at umiingit tuloy... worried kasi ko baka sirain nya ng tuluyan yung assembly dun. Patulong naman mga peeps. TIA

praetor,
taz,
splash guard ang tawag dun. You could try your luck at surplus shops, kung wala kang makita, Casa is your next choice.

August 2nd, 2009 12:20 AM #2597Wow, naalala pa ako ni benchph! Actually, trade in ko yung sedona ko just 3 months ago. After 2 years, hindi pa rin maayos yung problema ng ride ko. So I was forced to trade it in na lang, kasi willing itrade in ng kia for 350K. I wouldn't be able to sell it for 250K, duda ko yung engine sensor nasira. Even though wala na ang ride ko, I still follow this thread.
Regarding the use of outlast battery, take note the carnival/sedona actually uses N100 or a 6smf battery. A 3smf battery will be underload/underpowered. The orginal battery is a compact N100. What happens when you use a lower powered battery? Mabilis masira yung battery mo, pati yung alternator mo will have a shorter life, masisira yung IC mo parati. This is what I learned the hard way, having replaced my alternator twice, until I listened and followed what the casa told me, and bought an after market compact 6smf battery. The original battery is Rocket brand. I bought an Atlas brand, also from Korea.

teejae,
there is another thread for the owners of the new carnival. di naman kita tinataboy, Ibang-iba kasi ang ung Gen1 at sedona sa bagong carnival. So, ung mga naka-post maaring di applicable sa van mo.
altec,
op kors! hehehe. isa ka sa mga sumasagot sa tanong ko dati. I realized just now. That i may have caused my own problems on our van. If i remember correctly naumpisa ung mga problema ko sa alternator nung pinalitan na ung orig battery ng 3SM lang yata.
curiously, i searched motolite's website and they are recommending 3SM for the sedona. hmmm
