February 9th, 2009 11:23 AM #2442to those who find their carnival's parking brake a little weak especially when parking on the inclines, here's what i do - while the car's in neutral with right foot on the brakes, i depress the parking brake to the max and let go of the brakes a little to test if the park brake would hold. If the car slides down, i simply engage to first gear (or reverse, whichever the case maybe) and press the accelerator just enough to nudge the car a bit up the incline. I can leave my car in neutral and it wont slide down even in considerably stiff inclines.

February 11th, 2009 04:59 AM #2443hi sir, it is normal to feel a surge/boost in power because of the turbo when you step on the accelerator pedal. try to observe at what rpm do you feel this surge. it should be between 1k-2k prm.
second, are you also saying that there is a surge of power when you release the accelerator pedal? if so, then you have a problem with the injection pump. have your trusted calibration shop check it. i had a similar experience with my wife isuzu feugo. even after releasing the accelerator pedal. the rig would not slow down. would even accelerate at times. the cause of the problem. defective rotary head/pump. they had to replace the whole assembly. got a surplus one cuz a new assembly was going to cost more than 10k. hope this helps

February 11th, 2009 05:19 AM #2444hi sir,
the a/t has two settings. power and eco. you might be on the power setting at this setting. the automatic transmission will shift at a high rpm maximixing the power bank of the engine. at the eco or economy setting. it will shift at a lower rpm. try playing around with that switch while driving.

hope you can help me further po sa prob ko regarding shifting... thanks a lot in advance...

February 16th, 2009 11:35 PM #2447Hi carnival peeps!
I have been a lurker here for quite some time and I've finally decided to make my first post as I only got my 01 carnival some 3 weeks ago.
Anyway, I appreciate all the sharings made on this thread and I must admit it influenced my decision in getting this ride despite some negative things about it.
Of late, I have been very busy doing preventive maintenance works on it and I must admit it has already cost me a bit of a fortune (34k). Just the same, I'd like to share some things I've learned along the way which other carnival owners may use as a point of reference.
blinking "hold" icon (this applies to a/t)- gear doesn't shift as smoothly as it normally should since it is locked on a higher gear. In my case, my ride was having a hard time accelerating specially from a standstill. Had the solenoid valve assembly replaced (its similar to a condenser from the old 80's car) at kia pasay (walang available part kay goodgear). Having this part replaced at Kia Pasay together with the draining/replacement of ATF costs me 9.9k.
busted foglamps bulb- somebody posted (forgot the name) that we can in fact use an H3 or H1 bulb on this, and it does work! The original bulb (assembly type) which is not readily at our suking auto supply can be had at the casa for i think around 400 pesos. Since it is a bit pricey, I tried using the H3 bulb and had it soldered on the original foglamp assembly and the result is a much brighter foglamps (at a fraction of a cost).
I hope this info will help. I'll post some more as I learn more from our beloved ride along the way.
