mintoy, did you have the thermosensor at the radiator cap housing checked?

i used to have the same problem myself and that little part was the one that caused it.

    hi sir diesoline,

that was something i did not check. i am not familiar with all these electronics so did not know that the thermo sensor was connected to the auto comp box. its possible cuz. i was told by the driver that from manila to the south highway. the overdrive would not engage. but would engage when they would reach sta rosa exit. but now it totally does not engage.

after reading your post i went out and turned the ignition of the sedona to on. despite the engine being cold (was not used the whole day) the main fan turned on. so hhhhmmmm.... i think you hit the target dead on. will have it replaced tom at goodgear. thanks a lot.

weird, the glow plug indicator lights up in the dash, but it still starts up. weird thing is, it stops blinking if the engine heats up.

    way22,

the faulty oil pump, which puts pressure on its co-components like the oil chain, etc. etc. is a known defect of the gen1 carnival. they solved this though with the sedona. i remember paying 40k for that.

i also remember having that crankshaft pulley replaced. i wasnt having problems with braking, i was just complaining about a squeaking noise, they replaced almost all bearings and tensioners. turned out it was the crankshaft pulley. that part is also pricey. 4k i think.

    mintoy,

did you use dextron II-e tranny oil? is it still shifting to forward and reverse? you rarely use the overdrive anyway. so if its still shifts to D and R. overdrive is the least of your problem.

    Greetings,

I just bought a 2003 Sedona Diesel A/T (more like Park II since it is equipped with a sun roof) a couple of months ago would like to join this forum. I switched from a gas run sedan so I don't know much about diesel driven vehicles.

I just would like to ask if you guys always follow what the KIA manual says. The manual says part of warming-up the engine after start-up includes pulling the warm-up switch and turning it clockwise and then doing the reverse after the temp guage moves slightly. The manual also says if this is not done, the vehicle "...may have the excessive fuel consumption and emission gas.". The warm-up switch looks like a choke switch to me, and it does not pull-out or push-in, I can just rotate it clock- or counter-clockwise.

I wonder if you guys follow the routine that the manual calls for.

    Thanks a lot.

if you turn that know clock-wise it will pull your accelerator slightly thus having your engine run at higher RPM.. unlike EFI Gas engines equipped with servo throttle control that automatically adjust RPM (when engine is cold engine is set to high RPM 1,000 - 1,200RPM) and will lower to normal RPM (800 - 900 RPM) where as for Diesel engines you need to manually set the engine to higher RPM so as to burn fuel more efficiently when engine is cold and also to achieve normal operating temperature faster..

as for me when i still have the carnival, i only use that function especially when the weather is very cold or during rainy season it will also lessen the vibration of the engine during cold start-up.. turning the know clockwise you will feel the accelerator pedal will be slightly moving downwards
