Tama sir sir yapoy, super-hirap lang i-apply yung brakes na parang wala na sya, pero when I think back on it, I still had braking ability since I was able to drive about 700 meters to a safe parking area once I recognized what the problem was.
I was going 20 kph or less and looking far ahead to check for traffic. I was able to bring the van to a stop in probably 10 meters at that speed.
Of course, on the trip from Tarlac to Pangasinan I had the aircon off all the way, so the problem never manifested itself.
Anyway, if anyone encounters this problem in the future, the lighting of the brake and battery warning lights is accompanied by an audible beep, so keep that in mind to enable you to recognize the problem right away.

April 14th, 2008 03:02 PM #2203Guys need your help! Thanks!

April 14th, 2008 05:37 PM #2204I have another question. Just now my driver called and naputol daw fan belt ko sa AC and another belt and aside from no AC, he had difficulty steering and braking when he brought the van to the nearest AC shop. Anyway, because of the urgency i asked him to buy the belts that are available at the shop and have it replaced so he can bring the van home.
After installing the belts, AC was restored as well as the powersteering and brakes. The problem is, the ABS light is permanently ON. I asked him to bring it to the nearest service center and it was Signet EDSA and they said that its the ABS sensor daw is the problem.
Has anybody here experienced the same thing were the ABS light remains ON all the time? How much is the ABS sensor if replaced?
Thanks.

April 15th, 2008 12:51 AM #2205check first your alternator... check if the charging voltage is within specification of 14Volts +/- 0.5volts i have experienced that when the alternator is overcharging ABS light indicator will remain...
ABS sensors are very durable... onthing may happen is if the cable was snapped or damaged during BELT replacement especially if the person replacing the belt at the A/C shop do not know how to replace the belt. kia carnival engine uses an Automatic Belt Tensioner. The engine belts are located on the passenger side so possible that the ABS sensor was damaged during replacement
Kia Carnivals are known to withstand overheat, this is one less problems of carnivals unlike Besta/Pregio vans which are known for overheating problems.. I saw surplus engines at BANAWE at K-Mobis surplus shop around 40K.. i suggest you use the original radiator of Kia carnival plastic/aluminum.. the radiator size of carnival is not an issue or problem it is sufficient in size.. if your engine overheats, possible cause is the engine and not the radiator.. is your engine DEAD already?? try first to change oil first prior changing the whole engine

I used fully synthetic oil on my 2002 Carnival when it was brand new, but after the first two or three PMS intervals at the casa, I opted to switch to semi-synthetic oil.
I've been using Shell Rimula X for the past three years. Wala naman akong problema sa motor oil na ito.
May I ask why you are considering using fully synthetic instead of semi-synthetic oil?

April 15th, 2008 09:15 PM #2207i don't know if this is true to carnivals or even to other vehicles, but i have seen before a mazda 323 sedan under engine overhaul due to clogged oil galleries.. i asked why and the mechanic said it is due to the Fully Synthetic oil being used by the owner since he bought the car

Thanks yapoy86 for the inputs. Maybe I can have it checked tom but its too bad if the ABS sensor was indeed damaged. Due to the urgency since the van had no breaks and power steering, we had to have the belts replaced at the nearest AC shop or have the fear of being towed by the MMDAs. Worse comes to worst - last resort will be to have it checked at the CASA.
