March 5th, 2008 12:09 AM #2161mga sirs, whats the initial symptoms of that oil chain/ oil pump problem, paki describe naman po para at least pag na experience namin ay maagapan agad... san po ba located sa engine yan part na yan?? gaano po ba ka lakas yung "grinding sound"?? kailangan ba na tanggal yung buong engine sa car??
Sir UTAKABO info naman po dyan on repair cost and other relative info on that... di ba dapat may makikita ka na mga grinded metals nung nag change oil?? wala po ba naging noticeable indications like medyo matagal mawala yung oil pressure indicator??
also warning to those who will replace their timing belts, i bought kia carnival timing belt sa fronte and they gave me the "replacement part" which is GATES brand, orig din daw yun kaso hindi lang daw dumaan sa quality check ng MOBIS, mura eh 2,500 lang kaya binili ko, nung ikabit ok naman kaso nung 3rd time na engine start biglang may tumunog na parang pumipitik, nung buksan ulit eh bumigay pala yung timing belt, konti na lang putol na kung nag rebolusyon pa yung makina eh siguradong sabog sabog ang makina ko...
ayun binalik ko sa fronte buti pinalitan, hanap tuloy ako nung talagang orig na made in germany, CONTITECH ang brand.. mahal pala to 3,700 per piece pati mga timing bearings and tensioners ang mahal kasi made in germany lahat para pala german car itong J3 engine... all in all umabot ng 10k ang gastos kasama labor..
use nyo lang lagi CONTITECH brand yung GATES kasi malambot eh.. putol agad..

March 5th, 2008 07:49 AM #2162so far parts quotation is around 15k then labor and machine shop.
it is on the right side under the engine. if the oil pan is removed you should see it right away. as for the symptoms wala naman akong napansin, except for the grinding sound which started very faintly and would go right away after the engine has warmed up. it suddenly got worse (the sound got louder and wouldn't go away) when it was used in going to batangas (maybe because of the sustained high speed driving). i did not notice any loss in power nor higher fuel consumption. i'm sure merong ribaba dun sa used oil the first time i changed oil (the unit is a second hand and had just accumulated 10k under my watch) but unfortunately i did not inspect it. (note to all of us: inspect the used oil engine - there is a strong toy magnet that is being sold on the streets, dipping it for a few seconds would capture a lot if there are metal bits in there).

sir diesoline: Thank you for the input. My Sedonna is TDIC M/T. I guess sobrang layo pala ng pagka"off" ng speedometer ko. Ang sarap pala ng CRDI, 100 Kph at
~ 2000 rpm. I really should have just waited until I found a CRDI.
sir mikey: Thanks, too. I was so inspired by your pictures of the engine number, I decided to get five stencils of them, by myself. I decided to remove and clean the intake manifold too, as advocated by sir rodski. To hit 2 birds with one stone. I started after lunch and by 10 pm, I was almost crying. I have good pictures of the gunk and engine number, though, to post here at another time together with a very long story, so no regrets. Sir, I would really like to visit La Via Taza Cafe (i hope I got this right) when I am in the area. I am so tired of eating breakfast at one particular place in Dagupan everytime. Where can I find it and what time do you open. Sorry OT.
Sir yapoy: Galing ng mga very informative post mo. I am also experiencing a very slight jerky response from the van in response to the accelerator after I had the clutch disk replaced. Even at the highway, and even if I step on it gently. It occurs after about 2 cm down as I depress the accelerator. My wife winds up getting nauseaus after a long trip. Did replacing the timing belt work? TIA

Hehe, nakakaiyak talaga mag-stencil ng engine number ng Sedona. Akala ko ako lang yung nahirapan kasi hindi ako ganun ka-mechanically inclined. Anyway, it was a good learning experience for me
Regarding the speedometer, I just had a chance to hit 100 kph again on the highway, and for my TDIC MT, I am at around 2400 rpm when traveling at 100 kph. Masarap nga siguro ang CRDi na Carnival.
OT: La Pia Taza Cafe is at the right side of MacArthur Highway if you're northbound, about 700 meters before Max's Restaurant. Pag nalagpasan mo na yung Al's Restaurant, kailangan mo na mag-reduce speed, kasi malamang na lumagpas ka kung mabilis takbo mo, dahil natatakpan ng konti yung signage namin nung katabing business establishment.
We are open from around 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. If you want to, send me a PM if you're planning a trip up north, and I'll see if I can meet up with you at the coffee shop sometime.

March 6th, 2008 12:11 AM #2165Replacing timing belt didn't work.. although i have stable idling now.. before nung hindi pa napapalitan eh nagbabago idling speed ng engine pero slight lang.. medyo maluwag na din kasi yung timing belt (space between teeths)
yung jerking response ay slight lang din naman, i only notice this when you use the engine break or suddenly step on the accelerator..
although i have consulted different diesel shops, they say ok naman diesel pump ko kasi ganda daw ng idling and walang palyado...
as per my observation, this problem is caused by the transmission and transaxle excessive backlash (excessive gear to gear distance caused by wear and tear) and this maybe common to FWD vehicles with transverse engine position since the engine movement during acceleration or engine break is parallel to the transaxle unlike in RWD where in the movement is perpendicular... The backlash will cause the engine to jerk since there is "space" between gear teeth...if you step slightly on the accelerator, the teeth will set first then you can accelerate.. but when the teeth are not on sel, the engine will have the opportunity to give the transmission sudden force/torque and this sudden torque will be absorbed by the clutch disc springs and engine supports causing the jerking action...
I observed this same problem with my Kuya's toyota vios... when the car was still new, i do not feel the jerk since the gears and CV joints are still tight, but after 50,000 kms i already fell the same jerk as to my carnival although mas amplified lang yun sa carnival since its diesel engine and heavier than that of the vios... diesel engines have stronger engine breaks compared to gas engines maybe this causes the excessive wear and tear on our trans gears and axle drives.. well we just need to step on the gas accelerator slightly and avoid sudden engine breaks..

hi,
May I know how often do you submit your Kia Car for tune-up? As I know, for gas engine, every 5K, but for diesel? Is it true that only Kia CASA shops can do the tune-up for our diesel Kia Car? tia.
