Hey fellow carnival/sedona van owners:
another question about our beloved minivan, meron ba mabilhan na metal radiator plug (don't know kung ano talaga yung tawag dito)? mine broke for some reason spraying a pedestrian with hot radiator fluid! happened when i turned off the engine, buti na lang meron ako timer so i was safely a few meters away when the engine stopped, but kawawa yung pedestrian kasi siya tuloy ang tinamaan... he suffered minor (1st to 2nd degree) burns on his thighs and lower leg...
gusto ko metal na para hinde na maulit ang incident na ito kasi when i was looking for a replacement, plastic pa rin eh, so i am wondering if meron ba metal na ganito benta...

Oh, I see. Maybe it was premature parts failure. Perhaps you can try looking for a metal replacement plug used in other car models --baka sakaling may mahanap ka na pareho ang thread diameter at size ng OEM part.
I wonder if there is a recommended PMS interval for replacing the drain plug?

i would like to think that the plug failed because it was designed to do so.
should excessive pressure in the cooling system exist, that pressure should be vented out by sacrificing the radiator in order to avoid more expensive damage to the engine's gaskets.
that's the reason why newer cars have plastic radiator heads. i think the sedona's radiator drain plug is plastic for the same reason. it's easier replace a radiator plug than to replace the whole radiator after its head has been damaged.
whenever the plug is removed for cooling system maintenance, it would be a good idea to give it a thorough visual check to determine whether it is still good enough or to replace it.

February 22nd, 2008 12:22 AM #2138Hello my dear tsikoteers and kia carnival owners..
i'm new at this website and found it very infromative regarding our KIA carnival problems and solutions..
i own a 2nd hand 2001 kia carnival LS with a 90K++ odometer reading.. so far no major problems aside from the parts which are regularly replaced like the following:
> 4 pcs engine supports
> Clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing
> Clutch cylinder master and slave
> Left front shock absorber (tumigas kasi although pwede pa i-repair pinalitan ko na din)
> Fan Belts
> Headlamp assy.
So far ok naman ang carnival ko, mabilis pa rin ang makina iba talaga humatak parang kotse..
I've seen most of the kia owners here have their cars serviced by a mechanic or in CASA which is very expensive.. but pratically KIA carnivals are very easy to maintain if you have the technical know how, which most of the time I do it myself to save and so far so good.. If you have other inquiries on what to do please feel free to ask me maybe i can help you diagnose some known kia problems
Well aside from that, may i ask if someone here knows where i could buy instrument cluster for kia carnival?? i have a problem where my speedometer got stuck, but the odometer reading still functioning.. can anyone share if you experienced the same?? what could be the possible solution??
Also is anyone here experienced in their engines that there are times na yung engine is "kumakadyot" (i dont know the right term) but the symptom is there are times when i suddenly step on the accelerator, engine seems to be rocking back and forth making the "jerking" action.. does anyone know how to fix this?? I have been suspecting the engines timing belt and timing since it is not yet replaced up to this time.. hope you can give inputs..
thanks in advance and more power to this thread/website which is truly been helpful

Hmmm, pwede siguro. Like having a built-in fail safe mechanism?
Welcome to the forum. Try sending "jay castillo" a PM regarding the instrument cluster. He has a shop that sells parts for Kia and Hyundai vehicles, among others. Have you tried inquiring from Fronte, Goodgear and the other auto supply stores mentioned in this thread?

Guys::: For those of you who have replaced your OEM shock absorbers with KYB shocks, what are your impressions on this brand? I'm due to replace my front shocks for the first time and I'm thinking of whether to stick with OEM parts or switch to KYB.
