Hi there,
While changing oil in one of the gas stations, the mechanic informed me that my ride's axle oil seal has leak, just curious what is this for?
OT:
1. When do you use Overdrive? Hold?
2. Is it okay to shift from D to D2 or L even when vehicle is moving? Others told me that I should stop first to avoid transmission related problem in the future.
Again, thanks in advance.Last edited by hinlog; May 4th, 2007 at 08:06 AM. Reason: vague statement

mikey, next time beer cake will be on the table, not rhum cake.
1. overdrive - my carnival has no overdrive button. on transmissions with overdrive i just leave it on all the time except when i am ascending/descending hilly roads.
hold - normally i don't turn it on unless: a) i am ascending/descending hilly roads (at times, i use this function in combination with D2) b)when i want the transmission to shift up when i think that the revs are too high
2. it is perfectly ok to shift from D to D2 to L even if the vehicle is moving. i have done it when driving conditions (on steep downhill and uphill grades) warrant it.

Carnival owners in Pangasinan have something good to look forward to: the Laus Automotive Group (which also owns Hyundai Dagupan, where I have my Starex serviced) is going to make their Dagupan showroom into a full-service dealership.
If you guys recall, dozens of pages earlier, I complained about the poor service of Kia Dagupan when it was still under another company. These are the guys who left a wrench in my engine bay after a PMS and who don't provide recommendations for possible service items whenever I bring my ride in for servicing.
Anyway, the new sales rep told me their service center will be operational sometime next month. Their technical staff has already finished training and their contractor is starting work on renovating the current service facility.
Actually, I just went there yesterday to get a quotation for my 160,000-km PMS

If any of you guys from Metro Manila have a chance to inspect one in the showroom, kindly post some photos of it and give your first impressions. Thanks.

May 13th, 2007 11:28 PM #1737If I'm not mistaken, 1.5M yung high end variant, power side & rear doors (ala Previa). IMHO, medyo sablay yung front.

Pero d muna nila nilagyan nagleak check muna to make sure walang singaw.

May 14th, 2007 11:15 PM #1739Just saw the new Carnival at Shangrila EDSA mall and ok naman sya.
Its as big as a Town & Country, seats 8, has the powerful 2.9L Diesel engine, 3rd row folds flat but 2nd row aren't sliding, interior plastics though are still cheap looking like your typical budget car.
But overall a very nice deal cuz it costs only around 1.275M for the base variant and 1.550M for the high end variant (but still with cheap looking interiors) with power doors.
Looks so much better than the current Starex but can't say once the new model is launched next year.

The service advisors and third party mechanics I've spoken with all recommend coolant plus distilled water, as it significantly raises the point at which the radiator boils over.
The technicians also recommend not opening the radiator cap to fill the radiator, but rather topping it off via the reservoir at the side of the engine bay. I fill mine to almost full (cold engine pa) whenever I notice the level getting low, which actually does not happen often.
You mean, the operating temp on your Carnival goes past the halfway mark on the temp gauge?
