Uy, hindi na ako naka-RV501. I switched to Dunlop EC201 tires a year or so ago after I wore out my RV501s. I couldn't find a vendor for the 501s here in Urdaneta. Anyway, neither tire model went oblong in my case, but they do wear out fast since I drive long-distance often.
Maybe I'll try Yokohama tires next time I need a tire change. Magkano ba yung Geolander tires?

April 11th, 2007 12:58 AM #1674I talked to my suki dunlop tire supplier. I have tried their sp70, now their ec201 just like mikey. Didnt go for the 501 coz I didnt want directional tread designs. According to him, they do have isolated incidents, but nothing extraordinary to claim that there is a noticeable design defect to have caused the oblong conditions. Some of the things that may cause oblong is driving into those cats eyes on the road. These may cause the steel belts to break and may cause the tires to deform. Another is tires that have undergone vulcanizing. Tires that have punctures, will normally mean penetrating through the steel belts. Water may penetrate and rust the steel belts, causing them to break later on. Under inflation does not cause oblong, as under inflation will cause the sidewalls to weaken rather than the tread itself. Another possibility is when the tire has gone beyond the recommended expiration date. Of course, the possibility that the oblong effect is really caused by tread failure attributed to the tire itself- an actual tire defect.
My ride is now on 3 pcs ec201 plus one original hankook. The ec201 has a max cold psi of 44, as compared to the hankook max psi of 35. I keep my tires at 35 as discussed several several pages back. Never did bring it up beyond 35 with the ec201, but havent gone down to 32 in a while.Last edited by altec; April 11th, 2007 at 01:06 AM.

April 11th, 2007 11:21 AM #1675good morning peeps. i dont have much time to read the previous posts so i dont know if similar problems have been experienced on your 1st generation carnival or any carnival/sedona.
this problem used to occur when the engine hasnt reached its normal operating temp pero ngayon, kahit fully warmed up na, it continually occurs kaya medyo delikado na.
i noticed that the battery light and handbrake light sa dash lights up together when i turn the aircon on. aside from this, steering ko ang tigas parang nawawala ang power steering nya and my brakes are very hard. parang nag prepreno ka na patay ang makina o nawawalan ng vacuum. may brake pa rin pero ang tigas so hindi sya kapit na kapit. if i turn my aircon off, nawawala ang handbrake and battery lights at ok ang steering pero matigas pa rin ang brakes.
before, akala ko kulang lang sa warm up kaya nagiging low rpm or low idle sya kaya the 2 lights turn on at tumitigas ang power steering. pero iba na kasi ngayon. muntik ako naaksidente this morning coz i was travelling downhill na around 80kph ang takbo ko. aircon was on and everything seemed ok hanggang sa biglang tumigas ang steering ang the 2 lights came on pagliko ko. nag under steer ako at muntik na lumabas sa kalye and when i stepped on the brakes, ang tigas at halos hindi kumakapit. good thing i had presence of mind so i downshifted it to a lower gear kahit A/T sya, stepped the brakes harder and turned the steering wheel para hindi maaksidente.
natakot ako dun ah. i made it to my office in one piece naman. can someone help me what is wrong with my ride? thanks.

April 11th, 2007 01:03 PM #1676Bisoy, had those symptoms in my Canival Park II. The problem was traced to the crankshft pulley, which was slipping. The pulley is constructed in 2 parts with a laminated rubber damper between the inner and outer part. When this rubber damper de-laminates it causes slipping and resulted in the problems you describe.

April 12th, 2007 03:30 PM #1678i just want to update you guys on my van.... my trusted mechanic says fan belt lang daw ang problema coz it is slipping. went around the shops yesterday and there arent any belts available for my van except sa casa. casa belts cost 2k+. i called my suking spare parts shop in manila and he charged me P400 lang. he mailed it yesterday and i got it just this lunch. hopefully ma replace this pm at makuha ko na rin. i hope everything will be ok. by the way, i am from mindanao.
kung ito lang ang problema, i think we should carry this belt always since this belt drives the power steering, alternator, and water pump pala. this is a very impotant belt. i suggest checking yours asap or change every other oil change or so. mura lang to kaysa maputulan sa kalye.
update ko kayo by tom. thanks.

Yup, I carry spare fan belts and even a timing belt for the Sedona since it's hard to find these items in provincial auto supply stores.
OT: I also carry a spare drive belt in my 2006 Starex since this single belt connects everything in the van --alternator, aircon compressor, radiator fan, etc.

April 13th, 2007 07:41 AM #1680the problem still persisted. i followed Daco Tyan's advise...... guess what we found out....
to temporarily remedy this, i am having it brought to the machine shop today. we might make/convert it to an all steel pulley. lalagyan ng spacer or something tapos ipapa full weld ko. any disadvantage to this?
thanks
